I mean braking earlier yes, braking faster would only just get me rear-ended :)

It's really important to keep a distance especially with rain and fog, but even with good weather we don't know if we can meet oil or a crazy driver that brakes all of a sudden.

There are some obvious tips, but you should always respect them. For me, it's always been useful not to go beyong 40 kmph. Also, don't get angry and always keep alert. Look at all the windows and make sure your breaks work when going downhill.

Never go more than 40km/h? LOL, that's actually a bad tip Takedon!! Don't get angry is a good one, sometimes we lose our temper and get distracted and with that we can cause accidents.

Sorry, mate, but in my country, we aren't allowed to go beyond 40 kmph unless we are out of the city. Also, try not to drive if you haven't slept for a day or two.

That's surprising to me, how can cars go at 40km/h? That's really slow. Everyone follows this rule?

When you and your girl inside the car argue about something while you are diving, you can pull over talk about it and calm down. Or maybe just be quite and continue the argue once your reach the destination.

Not a bad tip at all etcq, don't drive nervous or distracted. Actually most of my discussions inside the car are about my driving, the wife gets really nervous about it I don't know why...

This will save your brakes as well. By braking early your not going to be as hard on the brakes.

I have used all in the snow. As long as it has winter tires (good winter tires) I will be happy for the most part. But I miss the AWD in the Mazda Tribute we had. With that, winter tires and decent ground clearance it wasn't stopped very easy. And it would kick in when needed or you could push a button to lock it on.

Next year I should be using a Jeep. We will see how that goes.

We put Bridgestone Blizzaks on the Corolla and it really impressed me. I love those tires.

As far as the understeer goes. Most panic and brake when it slips in the turn. Then they go straight for the snow bank. I did that before then get off the brake. Once the tire gets rolling and finds traction, it will come right around.

We upgraded the radio in our car. The one we use now has a CD drive, auxiliary port, and USB drive. It also came with a remote which is why I consider it to be a safe tip/upgrade. My husband can just push the buttons on the remote while driving without having to be so focused on the buttons. (No offense to any men, but I swear men just... get to a point where they can use a remote without looking at it). No matter how many times I use a remote I do good to remember where some of the buttons are.

Not sure if that was the kind of safety tips that this thread was going for. But, any kind of hands free upgrade is a good idea. ;)

Ahah, but in fact it's a good tip, anything we do when we are tired can lead to mistakes and driving is no exception.

When on the highway, try not to have other cars beside you in case an accident happens in front of you. If you can't brake in time you can always swerve to the right or left to avoid it, but not when there is someone beside you.

This is an excellent thread topic.

Whenever you go for a long drive, be sure to take breaks. Most people feel like they don't need a break, but it helps a lot to keep your mind alert.

Wherever you are driving, try to get to where you are going by making as many right hand turns as possible. More accidents happen when at least one person is making a left hand turn as opposed to right hand turns. Turning left puts you out there while turning right does not.

I'm in America by the way, I don't know how good that advice would be in England.

My main tip is to always wear your seat belt and pay attention to the road every second that your driving, cause one second you take your eyes off the road anything could happen.

    Some driving tips are:
*don't follow too closely. There should be at least one car space between you and another driver
*go no more than 5 miles above the speed limit
*wait until you see a drivers lights in your rearview mirror to move over into their lane

I don't think it's possible to drive 40 mph in my city. Too much congestion.
