What is the worst road trip you have been on if you have been on a road trip that has been bad?

I often write here how much and how many road trips I have been on. I always said I loved them BUT in reading your thread, I remembered one I must have pushed from my memory. One time in the dead of winter, I decided to drive from Michigan to New York... Smarty that I am, I decided to cut through Canada on an unfamiliar route.

Bottom line, it was snowy...unfamiliar and my alternator went out stranding me in a small town at night and I didn't speak French (like seemingly everyone I ran into). Does that qualify as bad, eh? (a little Canadian humor at the end)

Worst road trip ever for me was going to Baltimore, Maryland. We were driving through Virginia and decided to get something to eat since we were on the road so long. We got of the exit and stop by Burger King. I order a whopper combo, which I usually do not order since I hardly go to Burger King. We took the food to go and ate it in the car. I believe within 20 minutes of eating the meal, my stomach begin to act up. It felt like two aliens were playing football in there. I had not told anybody what was going on with me because I though it might go away I would feel better, but it did not. After going through the pain for an hour, and quietly sobbing during that hour I had to tell them that I was not feeling to well. We stop by a gas station for some Pepto Bimal and to see if I had to go to the bathroom; which I could not since I did not like using public bathrooms and I just did not have to go. Taking the Pepto Bismal made me feel worst than before. From Atlanta to Baltimore was a 15 hour drive, I was in pain I believe for the last 4 hours on the way there. I cried and tried to get in a fetus position while sitting in the back seat beside two car seats. I was not enjoying the trip at that time. When we got to our destination I eventually went to the bathroom. And of course felt so much better. Ever since that trip and now I still eat fast food, but I stick with chicken. I actually just started to eat a small amount of beef, but I feel safer with chicken. And for some reason when I do go out of town I always get stomach problems, so its safe for me to eat something simple.

My worst road trip happened a few years back. The family had planned to visit a close friend in another parish and spend the day with him and his family, with the day being a holiday. We left home very early in the morning and just as we got out of our parish, while it was still dark , we got pulled over by cops and got a ticket for speeding. Before we got to our destination we had to make two stops to check on the car, one of which took us hours to repair. By the time we got their half the time we could have spent together was gone. I was very disappointed because we could only spend a short time as we didn't want to travel at night knowing that the car problem was not completely solved. Fortunately, we got home safely with no problem recurring with the car.

My worst road trip was about three years back when I was about to make a purchase online and instead of having the item delivered I decided to go and collect personally. The item was about four hours away, and when we would just about 10 minutes away from getting to the destination, my car completely gave out. Fortunately we were next to a garage. We never made it to our destination because of the car and had to essentially cancel the trip then and there and head back home. The worst news from this trip was that my car was actually completely dead. There was nothing we could do as the engine had given out and so we basically had to leave the car there and we could never fix it again.

It sure sounded like a disappointing trip but with 10 minutes away from the destination I wouldn't cancel the trip.

Worst road trip in recent memory is actually only two months ago coming back from New York City. the trip usually takes 2 hours one way, but due to train schedule delays and cancellations it took us 8 hours. At one point we took approximately 2 hours to go 4 miles. I would usually try to avoid traffic, but there was no single road in the main traffic area (around Greenwich Connecticut) that would take us off of the backed up highways.

Your trip reminds me of one I had while in New Jersey some years ago. At about 11 pm we were caught in bumper to bumper traffic on our way back from Connecticut because of road construction. It was an exhausting experience which caused us to get home after 5 that morning.
