I think most of you might already know there is an outbreak of Ebola in at least 3 countries of Africa. It started in Liberia, if I'm not mistaken. It started in one country and it has now spread to other 3 or 4 countries. The CDC says there is nothing to worry about, but you know how they are... they're always trying to avoid scaring us, even if that means hiding certain things from us.

In my opinion they're not taking this seriously. I just read about a guy who just died of this, he was visiting Liberia, got infected with Ebola and died recently. He was coming home next month... what if he had made it home and had started showing symptoms of Ebola? He could have brought this disease to America.

Quite dangerous if you ask me. They should quarantine everyone coming from west Africa! Or stop flying there!

Oh I am not able to travel at all, so me getting that disease is far fetched, but I think a country will only be at risk is when someone who came from Africa had it and was not quarantined.

The most scary part is it could come here :nailbiting: Ebola has no cure and people can get infected with it quite easily, I heard it can be transmitted thru body fluids as saliva and even sweat! It's super infections, if it reaches America or Europe, well, I'm not sure what we'd do. A lot people has died of it. I heard you can get it even if you touch things that people infected with it touched

What a annoys me the most is they still allow people to travel to that countries in Africa even knowing Ebola is so contagious :nailbiting:

This calls for great concern and the CDC really needs to treat it as a major problem knowing that a great number of lives could be affected. I am worried that it could spread more rapidly than they imagine and even get out of Africa. More definitely needs to be done along borders to avoid this.

The worst part is, people want to bury their dead and WHO is trying to educate these guys that doing so is not safe but people are not hearing none of it, in the end, they are hiding their sick relatives instead of letting them be quarantined,....what a disastrous way to spread the disease, that's why its not in containment....this is just scary, on a different note is Mers coronavirus over?...i say something real strange is happening to the world :(

That is really sick that they do that and then not putting a quarantine on those infected is the problem. I cannot be sure if the ebola virus is going to hit the US. Hearing all this stuff about viruses makes me worried just have to see what happens next.

If restrictions in borders of countries and flying to certain countries is not implemented, i 'm afraid we are on a precipice of a huge disaster waiting to blow in our faces :(...this monster {ebola} got no mercy :(

I can understand that which the borders do need to be secured. You never know when you can be bringing in a ebola infected person into the country. That is why we should take every precaution to ensure border safety is met.

Yes I am scared, but I think we will be fine if we all just follow the same standard procedures. Be extra careful in coming into contact with bodily fluids, doctors should take more precautions by washing their hands and wearing masks when in direct contact with a patient.

I heard they're not so sure if the virus can get thru your pores and infect you, so if you are with a sick person and a drop of his blood, sweat, saliva, tears, puke or whatever gets on your skin, well, odds are you can get infected. Pretty scary if you ask me. If it gets here I don't think we will be able to control it without losing thousands of people, I mean, if a relative, let's say a parent or a son or daughter fell ill with it and started to show symptoms, was covered in sweat or blood... wouldn't you try to help? I was thinking about that this morning.

I don't think MERS is totally gone, but I'm quite sure Ebola is waaay more infections and that's why we are hearing of so many cases. They said it all started in the forest, they suspect the bats had something to do with that. In Africa they tend to eat all sorts of animals, remember how HIV started. Ebola isn't like any other virus, they're afraid it might evolve into an airborne pathogen. It can happen, if I'm not mistaken it is a Rna virus, just like HIV, but Ebola is waaaay more infectious.

I can definitely see this virus spreading outside of Africa if they don't contain it well. It's so infectious and the symptom start as a very mild flu, then the person gets more and more sick. So an infected person could easily come here, start showing symptoms here and infect everyone they run across with. It's already spreading to other African countries, so if it spreads all over Africa, then Europe might be next or Asia. Then probably America.

I agree, Diane. I think we could be witnessing the beginning of the end, an Ebola outbreak taking place all around the world would surely wipe off a big potion of our population. It's not be the first time an outbreak of some disease does that to use... remember the Spanish flu and the plague? Could see the same happening, but this time it could be Ebola, since once you get it you can't get a cure... if someone gets it... all they can do is their body can fight it and survive it, most people die tho. It's horrible, it causes people to bleed and other things. We are seeing a mortal virus, they should take it more seriously.

You sound so scared and concerned.. While I'm very indifferent about this.. Is there something wrong with me? :wideeye: Maybe because it's not a big cause for alarm over here in our country.

Hehehe, I'm a bit like that most of the time :p But I'm not that worried, I'd be really worried tho if they detected Ebola cases in America, which might not be so far fetched, since one of the infected American religious volunteers is going back to the US to be treated there. I hope they know what they're doing. Some hospital in Atlanta will treat her.

In Africa, education will not spread like it would be in America. Look at how much of Africa looks even today, in 2014. I would love to go to
Africa and see the motherland of many of my people, but I wouldn't dare go.

Like you just wrote here, I just read on a news report that there are plans to bring American people with that virus back to America to be treated, but people seem to think that America doctors can handle the particulars of the disease, whereas a place like Africa and its doctors cannot.

I rarely watch tv nowadays, so I am not updated, but I heard that there have been a deaths in here that was caused by the ebola virus. But I'm still not alarmed at all. I guess if my neighbor were to get infected, then for sure I will start being concerned!

I would be crazy to say it couldn't make it to North America. But I think it would have happened by now.

If it spreads much father then it has already then someone really screwed up. In the early stages it is understandable.

I tit is a big problem but I don't feel it will go world wide. Some countries would shut down the airlines to certain areas if it started to spread too far.
