I hope so, James. If this thing makes it to America or Europe, then that's it. I think being a flight attendant right now must be one of the worst jobs, because if you come to think about it, they are exposed to a lot things, would hate to stuck in a plane full of people from all the walks of life for hours. Thanks goodness I couldn't get a job like that, I thought it was so cool, but in moments like this it got to be so stressing.

I started to think about this after reading about the scare the employees of a British airlines had to go thru, when a woman from Sierra Leone started sweating and vomiting suddenly. She was heading to England. She died on Saturday.

I'm a bit worried about it but I'm definitely not panicking.
It's not that easy for an epidemic to start, but with the amount of travel that goes on around the world regularly now there's certainly a possibility...

I was freaking out the other day to be honest, lol, I wasn't expecting they'd bring Ebola to this continent! thought they'd try to contain in in Africa, instead of trying their luck here, but oh well, I guess they think they can do it, I truly hope they are right. I would hate if they started to report after a few months that Ebola has infected average American citizens.

Being a passenger period on a flight can run you into the same problem as the flight attendant. They could have multiple flights a day so they are around more passengers. Look at all the people a sick person passes on a trip. They leave the hotel so they come in contact with some staff and people staying in the hotel. They take a cab, bus or a rental to the airport. They deal with the people they meet on the way and when they get there. Then they have to check in. They a trip the the food court to eat and a trip to the bathroom. They you are waiting with the people boarding your flight and possibly a gates beside yours. Then the flight crew you deal with and the people in the airport you land at (more if you have a stop over that causes you to leave the plane).

Then all of these people are going to their destination and start issues there. So travel can cause a lot of problems with viruses like this. I think other countries would deal with it a little differently.

Yeah, James, traveling right now isn't the best idea! I'm so glad I don't have a work that requires me to travel often or as a flight attendant or working at any airport. Geez, even going to the bathroom in any of those places is going to be such a scary thing to do in the coming months, because well, you never know! Not looking forward to gathering at public places either :nailbiting:

I'm not worried at all by the Ebola "outbreak." The media is just using scare tactics to up their ratings. If there is a deadly pandemic in our lifetime, it isn't going to be a blood-borne disease. Ebola is a very poor candidate for a global pandemic. You're far more likely to die in a car crash.

I am very worried! Maybe even more worried than others because I live in Georgia where the two Americans will be. I am not near Emory hospital, maybe a 30 minute drive, but that is to close. Nobody is happy about the virus, and definitely not happy about it being in Georgia. I feel they should have kept them in Africa. Yes, I know they want to get well, and wish they do get better, but sending them to the US is risky!
There is a lot that the CDC does not tell you about the spreading of the virus. There job is just to find away to calm Americans, and to me that means lying. I hope they care doing their best to keep it under control. I saw the first patient arrive here in Georgia on the news. He was able to walk out the ambulance, in a protective suit. Honestly, I do not even trust the suit. It could rip or anything!

The doctor is already there :nailbiting::nailbiting: He's been there since last Saturday, the American nurse will be there his week, I think. I couldn't agree with you more, they should have kept them in Africa, if they really wanted to help them they could have easily done it even if they had stayed there. They could have sent specialist and ensemble a lab there. I honestly have no idea what they re thinking, this is so suspicious and odd. Normally with a virus like this you'd think the government would try to keep it as far a possible from here. Makes no sense at all, unless they plan to do something else...

Yeah, Rob, I supposed you'd say that, lol. Btw, ebola isn't blood-borne only, it is found in most body fluids, even sweat, it's a fact. There are several strains of it, one of them is airborne, but only among certain animals. Not in humans.

I hope so as well, but most of all I hope no one else brings it here, since it seems they are still allowing people from those countries to come to the west. So I truly hope nothing bad happens, we will know for sure in the next few months.

Yeah, I was talking specifically about the one that we're all freaking out about, not the one that's airborne for pigs. The problem is that a lot of news articles are saying things like "NEW EBOLA STRAIN RUMORED TO BE AIRBORNE." Okay, rumored by whom? Uneducated villagers? When these "rumors" come from the WHO or the CDC, then I'll be a little more worried. Even then, Ebola doesn't become very contagious until the symptoms are clearly visible. It's very easy to quarantine a person who's exhibiting symptoms before they become highly contagious.

Yeah, we'll see. But if American medicine/doctors can contain a virus like AIDS, then they might be able to do the same thing with this as well.
The bottom line is that getting a disease in America is way different than getting that same disease in some place like Africa, that's why "they" are sending for certain Americans to come home.
Unfortunately, in certain parts of Africa, people are still dying of diseases today that Americans stopped dying from 50 years ago because of our innovations ie vaccinations, just better care over-all.

Not really. They would take all kinds of precautions. If they sent a team there, you are bringing a team back that could come in contact with it. Sending a team down there means you have a team down there for one or a couple of people. Unless you are going to have them work on everyone which is fine. But then some hospital is short staff because of that team. In the US they would be working on more then just that one patient.

They will get good care here and they will be in a unit that is geared up to deal with something like this I'm sure.

I think the Ebola situation is the perfect platform for people to endorse their personal prejudice against individuals from West Africa. Ebola is not going to spread around the world. This is media fixation to play into the fears of the public. I am wondering how did Ebola spread out of nowhere. Think about it. I can't remember in recent years hearing about this catastrophe on such a mass level before. I'm not trying to play conspiracy theory but I am saying do not fall for whatever trick the media is trying to play with your mind.

I am worried about it being brought to US..and then through the illegal immigrants,to european countries..
I am worried about the stupidity of the African authorities to not setting a quarantine zone.
I am worried about the American authorities wanting to bring back both the ebola affected doctors back to the states..
I am worried about WHO asking Germany to proceed with the sampling...
I am worried about an epidemic that is looming..!!
They might take "n" number of precautions, but one..just one infection...the world is fked up..for life..!!

From what I read it isn't that easily passed. So it isn't going to do the damage some others can cause. If it was air borne then it would be a bigger issue. They also are saying it has about a 56-60% survival rate. The people that get treated early do much better. On thing they treat them for is dehydration. So it isn't good but it isn't a sky is falling moment.

@Trellum, Have there been deaths already in Mexico or none so far? I guess if there were deaths already then that's more cause for alarm.

I'm not really worried because I've been through my fair share of outbreaks in the past. During 1998, we had the JE outbreak, then SARS, then the bird flu which was identified as H1N1, and a few more which I forgot. I managed to get through them unharmed so I'm sure we're going to get through this as well. Besides, the disease hasn't reach to my country yet.

Ok,just one simple query,if it is transmitted only via bodily fluids why are there so many precautions.
Ebola has a 75% mortality from what i read, and i believe it to be true. The casualty rate suggest so,so we can't disapprove stats.
It isn't a sky falling moment as yet,but we don't want it happening, there are already enough diseases to pester mankind..!!

Here is an interstellar page showing outbreaks since 1976. I wonder what caused this one to be so much larger than other years?
