Not really, Ebola spreads through body fluids such as sweat, blood, etc. I don't think I'm exposed to any of those, but still. If there were any confirmed cases of Ebola in the UK they would be quarantined ASAP, no questions asked.

I agree with you. A lot people over here (I can tell) are really confident this won't become a major issue, and I truly hope they are right, but i can't stop to think that it would only take one mistake. Letting people come and go as they please isn't a good idea at all either, letting people flying from west Africa to Europe like nothing is going on is a big mistake... can't help to think about it.

Nothing in the border so far, we will all know after a few weeks. Hopefully it continues that way! We will see!:nailbiting:

Ebola scares the heck out of me. It scared me before this outbreak when it became a little more mainstream. I'm glad the private sector is pumping so much money into finding a treatment for it, because it's a very serious disease. Hopefully we can save those Americans who have it as well as everyone currently infected in Africa, but I doubt that doctor was cured just because of the serum. I think he naturally overcame it already.

To me the threat looks quite real, but I also believe this kind of incidents are used to distracts the masses from more important things from time to time, just like they did with the swine flu. But I'd not say the possibility of Ebola spreading globally is not likely. I truly hope it doesn't spread! I truly hope we can be safe to still make plans for the future the next few months...
Because you never know with a virus like ebola... it could mutate and... I truly hope we are safe.

Me too, curing a virus has proved to be impossible, but I have the theory they just say the serum did the work so we don't panic in case there is an outbreak here and Europe. I don't trust the government nor the media, they haven't proven to be honest in the past. I honestly think what truly helped the doc was the transfusion too, plus the close medical care. People with no coverage will have a lot trouble in case there is an outbreak.

Btw, Ebola scares me too, no virus scares me as much as this one, not even the swine flu scared me and I saw how it killed people I knew! But Ebola is a totally different thing, the way people dies when infected with that is just too darn scary!

Just by reading your posts, you sound really scared. I think this outbreak will die a natural death, just like the SARS and the H1N1 virus scare before. But I agree that it was mentioned in the Bible that during the End Times, all sorts of mysterious diseases will pop up, just like what is happening now and from years or decades before.

You really have nothing to worry about. Ebola is less infectious than the flu and it isn't airborne. To become infected with Ebola, you have to touch a bodily fluid of an infected person (blood, sweat, vomit, semen, etc.). It's also much easier to contain than a lot of diseases. Infected people aren't able to travel very far before they succumb to the symptoms (internal bleeding). Because the symptoms are incredibly obvious, it's very easy to identify and quarantine the infected.

The only reason Ebola is spreading in developing nations is because they lack proper health care facilities, not because it's some sort of super virus. The sensationalist articles that are referring to a possible nationwide "pandemic" are misunderstanding the disease.

I think the Book explains it all quite well, but one has to study to understand:bookworm:.

People just act so crazy sometimes, thank God for those of us who act wisely.

The US authorities can handle this much better than their african counterparts. They can handle it and they already have set up quarantines across the nation, just as a precautionary measure.
Did you hear of the Dual citizenship US-liberian who has been diagnosed with Ebola..?
A canadian too has shown symptoms..

A sneeze or a cough can't spread those saliva particles and KABOOM!?...if its much easier to contain, why the heck are the stats of people dying rising every other day...currently 1000 are dead...what's up with that?....i thought the virus stays hidden/goes unnoticed for 3 weeks before symptoms show???...i stand to be corrected though.

Yes, funny how the CDC said it wasn't likely the virus would spread here, but now they said (the exact words, btw) that it was inevitable it spreads here! but the infection won't be so big, right. That's so reassuring! What worries me the most if it gets to other countries in America, like south American ones.. some of those countries have really bad living conditions and a terrible healthcare, almost as bad as Africa. So I guess we'd see as many deaths as in Africa?

Btw , I read about them, and I think it's so darn scary! Don't wanna get close to an airport anytime soon. Not good at all. Not good news, no time to panic, not yet, but maybe soon...

Hehehe, sorry about that! That's the bad thing abou text ;) I might sound more worried than actually am, but that's because I'm an alarmist and tend to overreact a bit sometimes, lol. If it is the end, well it will be, I'm trying not to worry as much as before you know? Life is so short, but I hear ebola starts to spread like fire here... then I might worry A LOT :nailbiting: People will be getting more and more paranoiac is this spreads here, I can foresee that. Is going to suck big time, people behave in such an ugly way when things like this happen... similar to black friday, but way worse!

Absolutely. I also don't trust them when they say it cannot be transferred by air. As someone said on this thread, it's all too easy through a sneeze or something like that. I don't think a nation can ever be too careful, especially with a virus like this.

Well doctors have been more careless lately some of them think they are immune. Its almost as if some think they are gods or something like that. I could not stress anymore then what I have. That is why you need to check these doctors before anything.

Ebola isn't transmitted by aerosol, so you're not going to catch it from a cough or a sneeze.

Let's take a look at the numbers. As of 8/4/14, 363 have died in Guinea, 282 have died in Liberia, 286 have died in Sierra Leone, and one has died in Nigeria. Notice a common denominator? They're all third-world countries with sub-par medical facilities. That's why the patients are being flown to first-world countries. First-world medical facilities can treat Ebola and prevent it from spreading.

If you're going to worry about a deadly disease, worry about influenza. Each year, 250,000-500,000 people die from the common flu.

How do you know that these people weren't infected months ago?
