    Well I have heard of worse. Much worse. Really. This is funny though. Woman must be saying to herself 'opps . . '
    And when you think of some of the WINNING lawsuits, well this one is actually not bad at all.
    Some you would not believe. (another post may follow soon )

    Well the thing that amazes me is these are winning lawsuits. It is American info, not Canadian.
    And this has been around for a bit so I realize it is not new. But it is still mind boggling and funny IMHO. Note if you will some of the $ that was won.
    I feel their pain, I really do.

    Dumb lawsuits that won!

    It's time again for the annual 'Stella Awards'! For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald's in New Mexico , where she purchased coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right? That' s right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head scratcher handy.
    Here are the Stellas for the past year:

    *SEVENTH PLACE*
    Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The store owners were understandably surprised by the verdict, considering the running toddler was her own son.

    * SIXTH PLACE *
    Carl Truman, 19, of Los Angeles, California won $74,000 plus medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbour's hubcaps.

    * FIFTH PLACE *
    Terrence Dickson, of Bristol , Pennsylvania , who was leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of the garage. Unfortunately for Dickson, the automatic garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not get the garage door to open. Worse, he couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the garage to the house locked when Dickson pulled it shut.. Forced to sit for eight, count 'em, EIGHT days and survive on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog food, he sued the homeowner' s insurance company claiming undue mental Anguish. Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish. We should all have this kind of anguish.

    FOURTH PLACE*
    Jerry Williams , of Little Rock, Arkansas, garnered 4th Place in the Stella's when he was awarded $14,500 plus medical expenses after being bitten on the butt by his next door neighbor's beagle - even though the beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. Williams did not get as much as he asked for because the jury believed the beagle might have been provoked at the time of the butt bite because Williams had climbed over the fence into the yard and repeatedly shot the dog with a pellet gun.

    * THIRD PLACE *
    Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania because a jury ordered a Philadelphia restaurant to pay her $113,500 after she slipped on a spilled soft drink and broke her tailbone. The reason the soft drink was on the floor: Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument. Whatever happened to people being responsible for their own actions?

    *SECOND PLACE*
    Kara Walton, of Claymont , Delaware sued the owner of a night club in a nearby city because she fell from the bathroom window to the floor, knocking out her two front teeth.. Even though Ms. Walton was trying to sneak through the ladies room window to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge, the jury said the night club had to pay her $12,000....oh, yeah, plus dental expenses. Go figure.

    * FIRST PLACE *
    This year's runaway First Place Stella Award winner was: Mrs. Merv Grazinski, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who purchased new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, from an OU football game, having driven on to the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually leave the driver's seat while the cruise control was set...... The Oklahoma jury awarded her, are you sitting down?
    $1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home.

    Wow. I don't even know what to say. Just think, that woman, at some point today, will be in control of a vehicle. If she forgot her cell that day she might not have made it out at all. Wow.

    For some reason those lawsuits piss me off. Most are of people doing wrong and then screwing that person over again with a lawsuit. The jury in each of those cases should be forced to pay the "victim". Not one of these cases should have made it to the court room. There should have been a $5000 fine for the "victim" and lawyer for even trying to pull a bs stunt like that.

    Oh my. Oh my. Great one.
    So why are we encouraging deer to cross in high traffic areas. Now that is deep.
    I think we should give them tickets.
    Seriously the moderator didn't actually break up? Self control. The woman announcer sort of wasn't quite as able to keep the laugh under control though.
    And she still does not get it. Ummm. The caller actually has a drivers license too.
    Good one.

    I would have loved to see the faces of the people at the radio station as that was going on. The shock when they realized that she might be serious and the tears from laughing after the call ended.

    I remember this one quite well because when it happened I owned a high end furniture store. It made me want to put a lease on some of the kids whose parents would let them run havoc. Some of these lawsuits are just plain ass crazy and I do wonder if some of the jurists are on the take with these amounts of payoff.

    At least the woman in the video did not open a lawsuit, lol. I wonder why the winning lawsuits posted above sided with the wrong side? Are the jury nuts or something? They are not fit enough to do jury duty! They must have been paid off, lol.

    I don't know, some are, I guess, born lucky. I do something stupid and it inevitably comes back to bite me on the ass, not boost my bank account. That is the way I have found life to be. Oh well.
    I also sort of get embarrassed too when I do something dumb. But I gotta say, putting a vehicle into cruise control and walking back to make a sandwich and ending up a millionaire. Yup, I was born under a bad sign.

    I fully understand what you are saying. If I sued every time that I had a chance I'd be a multi-millionaire by now! Maybe I should take a trip home to the States just for that purpose!

    I watch the first clip. It is pretty funny. When we are nervous, we do not think straight. I wonder how often the operators get calls like this in the summer? At least the operator was nice about it.

    People need to catch up with the times. They have apps now for cars that allow you to unlock your door. I do think that calling 911 is not an emergency if you are locked out only if a baby is in the car. That person should have just called the police office.

    Wow. Some of those lawsuits are absolutely ridiculous!

    Back on topic, that phone call doesn't even come as a surprise to me anymore. :p There really are some crazy, stupid people out there... But it does give us all a good laugh!

    Yes, the stupid people out there also have their "entertainment value" as far as humour is concerned, so lets be thankful that they exist to make us laugh, lol. I was surprised that the 911 operator didn't laugh 1 bit while listening to the lady. They must be trained to hold it in until the call ends, lol.

    At least now the woman knows how to get herself out in situations like that. Pretty funny but also was kind of smart for her to call for help. If she didn't, she would probably panic and who knows what would happen afterwards.

    Folks call 911 for the stupidest things. I remember there were some calls to 911 where people at a burger joint ordered a burger not on the menu. So they called the cops to come over and arrest the restaurant manager. Cops said they won't do any such thing. Apparently, some people believe if you walk into a restaurant that specializes in burgers, they should be able to put together any kind of burger you ask for. Even off-menu items.

    LOL! I know this is an old thread, but that was too hilarious. It reminds me of a clip from Family Guy:
