    I second that suggestion, most other forums I've been on do a similar thing and generally it helps promote forum pride as it adds a nicer touch to the privilege of being staff/VIP.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I glad you mentioned this, it is something I plan on adding to the forum but I haven't done it yet.

    What do you think of the ribbons? Right now I have the "Founding Member" ribbons that is for the first 25 members that reach 100 posts (not including me). I can also make ones for VIP members, Staff and so on.

    I can have 13 different ribbons and they all can be used by one member. I think that is over doing it so I might have it show a max of 3 ribbons. It would show the three top ribbons for a member.

    I'm also thinking of making a picture of the month ribbon once that starts. The winner would have the "Picture of the Month" ribbon displayed for the month. Maybe one for second and third place.

    Three is the magic number in most situations, so you should stop there. Or, you can provide a screenshot with maybe five or seven and let us see how it would look. Will the different categories have their own color? That would look cool. Is there an option for us to pick which ribbon we want to show off?

    I think your right. I don't think there will have to be more then three anyway.

    Each category will have its own color so you know what it is at a glance. I haven't decided on all the ribbons or the colors. I might do a poll for color choice.

    With the mod I believe you set levels for each category. It will take the highest level that a member earned and display that. I'm not even sure if three will be needed because of what will be available. So far I think I will have the following categories.

    Admin (maybe)
    Staff or Mod
    Founding member
    Premium member or VIP (undecided on the name of this level. This level will be for members that donate to the forum at a later date. I have some ideas for some special features for this level with founding members will get for free for life)
    Picture of the Month Winner (will have to be shorter for the ribbon but I would like to have it for the current months, picture of the month winner)
    Maybe have one for 2nd and 3rd place. I will let the forum decide on that one.

    So someone that is a founding member, won't need to become a VIP because they will get the benefits of that level anyway.

    So someone in a month could have a founding member or VIP ribbon and a Picture of the month. So that would be two spots.

    A staff member could be possibly be a founding member which will be two but I don't think they will be included in the Picture of the month contest so that would cut out a third there.

    Speaking of that there could be a couple other things that could be offered. Maybe most active or somethings along that line. If someone has some ideas on those then we can look at that as a group and decide on that.

    I think a lot of thought just went into that. LOL.

    In a few minutes I will turn on a couple more ribbons just to see what they look like with more then one.

    Maybe you could eventually do some kind of member of the month type deal? You could pick the member or there could be a vote. Would probably be easier for you to pick. Might turn into a nasty popularity contest otherwise. Then, you just pick someone every month who is active, helpful, social, etc etc. I'm assuming you can give someone a ribbon and then revoke it with this suggestion. Unless you intended to do a past member of the month ribbon as well. Which is not a horrible idea. :p

    That isn't a bad idea. I have thought about doing that. I just wasn't sure if it would upset the people that were not picked. I know you can't make everyone happy.

    There are a few ways at I could do this.
    • Pick the winner myself.
    • Have members select a winner.
    • I could pick 3-5 that I feel are the top members for the month and then have the members vote on the winner. You could still have a problem with popularity but it would cut that down a bit by having me and/or staff pick the list to be voted on.
    The add on that I use for the ribbon/banner/badge, allows for 13 different ribbons. With that you can have 13 user groups. If you add it to a user group then they will get that ribbon. So I can put someone in a group and manually remove them a month later. It would be pretty easy once its all set up. It will take a bit more time once there is more members because I would have to search for that members name to make the changes but it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

    The add on has been updated to allow 35 different ribbons so once I get around to upgrading it, I will be able to make up to 35. So I should have more then enough available to use for different upgrades and contest winners and so on.

    Well I think all the different ribbon ideas sounds great. I definitely like the idea of YOU picking out 3-5 people and then letting the community vote. Seems like that would make it a little easier on you being the only staff member. But, when you eventually decide to add other staff members... It might be easier for it to be a staff decision. You could still pick and have the staff vote. Or the staff could nominate and then everyone could vote as a group.

    Side note - You look lovely in that Ribbon Sugarhill. :D

    You can make the vote amongst the founding members. Even rotate the voting members from month to month if you want, so it won't be slanted in any way.

    It will be a great feature another cool feature that you can use is award feature I have seen that feature for mybb and vBulletin but it increase user activity.

    I just started to use this feature for contests. We now have a top contributor contest. The winner of that will get one. R. Paradon is the first to receive one. I'm debating on 2nd and 3rd place getting one as well. They will get them for one month.

    The plan is to have monthy contests as well. The winner of each month will receive one. They will keep that ribbon until there is a new winner for that month, which will be one year. Ryder13 is the first to receive one of these.
