It is obvious everyone here is a non smoker. Well I'm sorry to see that. I AM a smoker and have been for years. I have had no trouble with nicotine stains in my vehicle because I kept it clean and fresh by cleaning the interior with fresh lemon juice and a good detergent along with a little elbow grease on a regular basis. I never had a complaint from anyone who rode with me that was a non-smoker.

Your sorry to see that there are a lot of non smokers?

Do you smoke while non smokers are in the car? Some just don't complain much. Others might not complain because you do keep the car clean. It doesn't mean that they can't smell the smoke. Most smokers don't notice a smoke odor from smoking. Just detailing a smoking car made it hard to smell anything other then the cigarette smoke. At times we had to ask someone to smell the car. Most smokers wouldn't bother checking for us because they said they couldn't smell the smoke from their years of smoking.

Keeping it clean will help a lot but the smoke will get places that you will not or can not reach without removing everything from the interior. We did a highway tractor with a big sleeper. They didn't say they wanted the smoke odor removed. We do things to try to get rid of it anyway but they wanted it taken a step father. They had a bunch of non smoking drivers and a lot of drivers that quit so they wanted it to smell as good as possible. Thats odd for a trucking company.

My point is, smoke will get in everything, between everything and under it as well.

I can't argue with that. I do have to say the majority of my friends and associates all smoked so it was not an issue. If I was going somewhere with a friend or someone who did not smoke we usually took their vehicle and I just did not smoke. Simple.

Not everyone is like you. I have been around people that thought they were going to light up in my car. Why would someone think its ok to smoke in a non smokers car? I know some people that smoke but they won't smoke inside their house. Not sure if the do it in their car.

I understand what you mean and I agree. When I ride with someone who does not smoke I DON'T SMOKE. It is all about respecting the person I am with.

Those smokers should just opt for an electric cigarette if they can't help smoking inside their car, for the sake of maintaining it's appearance and "ambience".

I dislike smoking I don't smoke in my car. I have friends who are heavy smokers and the smell in the car is unbearable at times. I enjoy keeping my car clean and freshly smelling.

I think I'm going to throw up now. I have to say, I used to smoke several years ago and glad I quit. I remember I always used to love the smell of tobacco just walking by and now whenever I smell it, even just the hint of it makes me nauseous, gives me a headache and makes me want to puke. The smell is unbearable not just on your clothes but in your car as well. Good luck trying to Febreeze the hell out of the car just to get the smell out. It doesn't work, trust me, I tried.

I am among the long list of reformed smokers. I quit 14 years ago. It was also not easy.
I don't regret it at all. It is an expensive habit and well, harmful on so many levels.
But cleaning the windshield inside my car back when I was smoking and all the yellow crap I got off the windshield was actually a factor in my quitting.
But if I am in someone else's car, getting a ride then I feel the owner/driver can do as he or she wants.
    My truck, no smoking.
The other reason I am glad I quit, it is hard to be a smoker now in terms of where it is allowed. And it is damn expensive too.

To answer your question directly, no I do not smoke in a car or anywhere else if someone objects to smoking. I will wait until I am clear of that person or outside away from them. Generally I will not smoke in a car unless the person I'm with smokes. It is from my point of view not courteous and that to me is unacceptable.

I'm so glad I stopped smoking a couple of years ago, I remember my first car having that unremovable stench of cold smoke in it all the time. I've tried almost everything I could think of, that smell was just undefeatable. Was a couple of years back tho so maybe now there's better cleaners which can help alleviate that problem.

Current car is and always will be smoke free, especially when having fabric seats its an issue. Comparing the smell of my current car to the ones I had back when I was smoking, man, I'd much rather have that new car smeel I have now hehe. No offense meant to smokers btw, I've bene in your shoes and you "I have never smoked" guys can't possibly imagine what it's like, as smoker you dont really notice the stench at all when you're smoking. I gotta admit though, I did notice that cold smoke smell a day later when getting into my car, thinking "ah damn, what the hell".

I'm not even going into the whole resale value thing, guess that depends a lot on where you live though, it's somewhat a big issue around where I live.

I don't smoke and when people who do try to get into my car my rule is: The cig goes....or you go. I am also a Pisces so I don't do well with secondhand smoke. Neither does my car. So it's a 2 to 1 vote. Majority rules.

I never smoke inside my car. Usually I don't allow others to smoke inside car. Smoking inside car is a nasty idea.

I certainly can understand why anyone would not like cigrette smoke in the tight space of a vehicle. Even though I smoke I do respect people's feelings and am concious that smoke irritates some people. In fact it even irritates me and I have tried several times to quit. However with the slightest feeling of stress I light up. :(

I don't smoke nor would ever buy a car driven by a smoker. I know that they can be professionally cleaned, but still. I recently was looking to buy a house and one of the place we were shown had been inhabited by two heavy smokers. Everything (walls, carpets, etc.) was discolored and stank. Nasty, nasty stuff. No thanks.

Yeah I'm a smoker and after seeing those pictures I can only imagine what my car "really" looks like. Yikes!. And btw I'm trying to quit, not because of the car, but because of the little one you see in the picture in my avatar.

The residue from smoking builds so slowly that you really don't notice it until you start cleaning, or until it builds up to an extreme amount. You should see the inside of a smoker's computer (if it sits on the desk in front of them).

I smoke, but not hardly on a regular basis. A pack of cigarettes lasts me a rather long time. I usually smoke a cigar, but not much. I definitely don't smoke enough to get any kind of noticeable buildup, though. I think it's pretty bad if you let it get to the point where it's noticeable.

well, I used to smoke but I quit after I had my daughter seemed to get asthma attacks whenever we traveled in my car, and no matter what I did, the smell never used to go away, so for the sake of my kid, I had to quit smoking :) . You should try it too.
