Project Jeep TJ/JK build
Truck/SUV item created by Flexin, Oct 30, 2013
  • I wanted a Jeep now for over 20 years. My plan now is to buy one next year to do a project build for Gearhead Central. Some Jeeps that made me want a Jeep more were...

    • Daisy Dukes's 1980 Jeep CJ-7 (Daisy might have had something to do with it as well)
    • Macgyver's Jeep YJ
    • Jurassic Parks Jeep YJ
    • Angelina Jolie's Jeep Rubicon in Tomb Raider
    • Chris Rock's 1987 Jeep YJ in CB4
    • And so on
For the project I'm thinking about using a TJ. I'm looking for a good deal on a Jeep so I can see it being in the 98-2000 range. I wanted a 2003 Jeep Rubicon but I don't want to spend that much money any more. At least not on the Jeep itself.

Well the search is over. I bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK.
  • I want the inline 6.

I would love to do a HEMI upgrade but that is a big maybe.

    Update.

With the 3.6L Pentastar I'm pretty happy so I don't feel that I will be upgrading to a Hemi (unless I win the lotto and just want to do it because I can). This engine has nice power. It doesn't have the power or torque of a hemi but it does make this JK move.

As far as engine mods go, I don't have any plans for that yet.
  • Interior

    • CB (undecided on brand)
    • Upgraded front seats (this was for the TJ. So far I'm happy with the seats in the JK so they might do the trick. If not they will be farther down on the list of upgrades now)
    • Monstaliner in the tub (with the newer JK I will still be doing this but it won't be as early as I planned originally)
    Exterior

    • Website decals
    • Soft top at some point
    • grill inserts to protect the radiator
    • Stubby front bumper (brand is undecided at this point)
    • Upgraded rear bumper with tire carrier
    • Trailer hitch
  • I have my new tires installed. 265/70/17 Goodyear Duratrac's. I love them so far.

    Suspension

I want a BDS 3" lift. Now that I have the two door I'm not sure how high I want to go. I think 3" would be my max. There are some other brands I might consider as well.
  • Sound system

    • I want to upgrade the dash speakers and tweeters as well as the speakers in the sound bar.
    • I'm looking at added a small amp to hopefully avoid using the space behind the rear seat,s that I use to store the freedom tops to a sub. I still might wire up a sub so I can hook it up when I feel like it. I will do the other speakers first (I think) and see from there.
Lisa and Randy like this.
