Hi guys, i have this constant urge to crack my neck just like how you crack your fingers. i usually throw my head forward while i pull back backward to achieve the relief and the crack. Before i didn't have this urge and it just cropped up about two months ago. Before it was an urge to crack my back but that is diminishing, Does anyone of you have this urge or habit?

Oops! that does sound dangerous. I have heard of people obsessed with cracking body parts but never their necks. My twins like cracking their toes, I don't know how they achieve that and I like doing my knuckles. I think you should find out whether or not it is safe to do so.

I don't enjoy doing it, i just have an urge to do it i don't know why. i searched on the internet and read that it could eventually lead to spinal arthritis. They also said that the cause of the urge may be due to pressure in my spinal cord and that i should probably go to the doctor to get it checked out. Hopefully my doctor will be able to diagnose what i have.

I used to do it,but for now i have refrained from doing it,the frequency has dropped to just twice a day.Yeah it does lead to spinal arthritis and that was the reason i found a remedy to curb that urge.
use your index finger and middle finger together on your neck and give it a small rub.You will have the same feeling as what you do when you crack your neck.It is in short acupuncture and it helps in relieving pressure points.

I do think you should go see the doctor as soon as possible too Levi. Anything that has to do with the spinal cord could be real bad. I'll say a prayer for you in hope that all will turn out well.

Thank you guys i will try your recommendations and hopefully it works. The urge comes from stiffness in my neck so i'll be sure to tell my doctor that. I'll try what you told me Bala.

Never. I do pop my joints from time to time, mostly accidentally, but never I have ever felt an urge to do that. Could a psychological thing.

Hahahaha, same here! I don't mind at all to crack my fingers, when I stretch some other joints crack as well, but I don't mind it :p Doesn't feel too good or too bad, some people swear they feel like they release some sort of pressure every time they crack a joint. I can't imagine that, my joints are kinda problematic after all :p

The more you do it, the more you reinstill the want to do it.

    That's how ticks work.

When I was younger, I would do all sorts of weird ticks. They just "felt good".

It took me a long time, but the less I "gave in" to the wants and demands for ticks, the less they popped up.

I had a friend who'd crack her toes, was quite scary for me to see and hear that, i could tell she enjoyed it...but i got to ask, isn't this sort of exercise detrimental to one's health?

I think it is, cracking your joints can't be healthy. I really think those who ''enjoy'' this don't really do it from a physical perspective, more like a psychological thing.

Its funny I never get the urge to crack anything on my body, my roommate does it all the time however and it almost seems kind of painful. I have heart that it makes your joints widen and that its not a healthy thing to do.

No I never had that urge, my legs do crack at night when it's very quiet and I can hear a sudden sound when I stand up and walk.

Isn't it odd? It seems like we have brittle bones or something. Nowadays it doesn't happen as much as it used to. How about you?

If you're really worried, just go to the doctor. The same thing happens to me, in the mornings I really feel like I want to crack my hands, nothing bad really happens. A man received a nobel prize for cracking his right knuckle (or left?) for over 50 years or something, and he proved that it didn't cause arthritis when you cracked your knuckles.

I always crack my neck, back, fingers, and toes. It feels good, it loosens me up, and it isn't harmful.
