While there are a gazillion movies that show cars, some are oriented to cars, road trips, etc. Question for the board what are some of your favorites? Nearly as importantly, why? Thanks for sharing.

Wow. Good question. There is a lot of them. The first one that comes to mind is, Smoky and the Bandit.

Why do I like it? What is not to like? Fast cars, big rigs, Smokey burn outs, car chases and beautiful women. I have always loved big rigs and fast cars as well so this has always been high on my list of favorite car movies.

Yah, it is hard to argue with Smokey and the Bandit. While derided by some, it is a fun flick.

Beyond that, I dig the Mad Max films. While largely post-apocalyptic in genre, cars, trucks, weird vehicles, and at least one gyrocopter play a key roll. Particularly the second film, though the first has some too.

    Bullitt
is also a classic that features a lot of high speed action. While not really a car film per se, The Blues Brothers features a lot of automotive shenanigans and is a lot of fun. Cannonball Run is silly, but it has a lot of star power, and can be enjoyable when in the right mood.

Oh and no audio/visual thread about cars would be complete without Ministry's industrial-metal classic "Jesus Built My Hotrod".

... and The Teen Kings' classic car-drenched "Hep Cat".

I liked Mad Max. Cannon Ball Run came to mind for me as well but I only put up the one.

I mentioned this in another thread but I loved Over the Top as well. The drive through the mountains was a great shot. I also loved when he plowed the rig into the truck to save his son.

I don't believe I've seen that one (Over the Top) or, if I did, it was a long while back. Thanks for the title; I'm going to look this one up. :)

I haven't seen it yet, but I've read the new Mad Max pic (Fury Road) is heavy on the automotive action.

I watched it about 3-5 times in a few days. It took me close to a year to find it on dvd. I was home with my foot up after having some work done to my toe for a few days. I killed that movie and CSI during that time.
