That is true, if I spend a few weeks in Lisbon and then I get out I get this sense of freedom when I am in the highway and I start seeing the fields and the sky with no buildings around...

Sorry that you are still suffering from the buses Trellum. :p

I like driving but only when I have a nice scenery. A couple of years ago, me and my mates went on a road trip, and I loved driving on unknown roads and even got lost a couple of times. I really enjoy riding my bike the feeling of freedom is amazing, but unfortunately bikes can't be used during winter or rainy season.

Driving in the traffic sometimes is a pain. I have to push my seat forward so I'm closer to the pedals while driving in the city, else, my left foot(cluth) will start hurting badly especially in the fiat punto. Plus, I hate when lights turn green and they take loong time to start moving. The longer they take, the less people that passes the green light.

A nice scenery is always a plus, we have one of the most beautiful roads I've seen our Estrada Marginal, right by the ocean, it's an amazing view all the way.

That very same thing makes my mom go crazy! She hates it when people start to move so slowly while she'd waiting for green. I personally don't feel that bothered, but that's mostly because I'm trying to life stress-free :D Sometimes I think of public transport, I might go for it once I move to the Netherlands.

I don't longer drive because I decide to stop being a car's slave, but I remember myself feeling the pleasure of driving when I was 18-20 and used to drive from one state to another for the sole pleasure to feel the wind in my hair and play music as loud as possible.

Oh, those good old days when I used to sing along "Life's been good to me so far..." a Joe Walsh's song ;)

I love driving on open roads and places where there are not much of traffic. When the weather is clear it just adds to the charm of the drive... I like some drives I need to have on business trip to the nearest city, which I can do on an expressway. It is amazing!!

The car's slave? Really? :D In my perspective the car is my "slave" or friend because it takes me where I need...

I hate public transports. They stop in every god damn existent bus stop and that makes the travel alot longer than if you take your car. The only advantage of public transports is that you don't have to find a parking place, which is hard to find in the city where I live next to.

Yeah, actually the public transport over here sucks really bad!!! The buses (old ones) are kinda uncomfortable, and they move a lot... I mean, it often feels like we're traveling inside a dang salt shaker :D Not exagerating here! Sadly! Pus, they introduced a new system to pay.

Buses here are quite new, still, they're un-confortable and there are a few pocket-pickers. The only way we travel with safety is our own car. Of-course there might be accidents in such but common, it's alot safer. Not to mention that if a bus crashes, you have no seatbelt. Driving is just amazing!

I haven't been in a bus in a few years, but it used to be my daily transportation method and I recall the pocket pickers here inb Lisbon. Never thought of the seatbelts in buses, I wonder why there aren't any there...

Not sure on the seat belts. I think they did think about putting them in the school buses. That is why the school buses have the high backs. Its to protect the passengers.

In the school of my kids some road trips are more expensive because the buses for kids now already have those seatbelts, but not the regular ones no.

I agree :) I rather drive that relying on a bus for transport! To be honest I hate taking the bus over here, but once I move to the Netherlands all that will change :) I actually like the public transport there. As for accident... ever since they introduced the new buses here we've had a lot accidents here! Last time a lot people got hurt, incluiding babies!

The seatbelts case is completly "stupid". I mean, in a car you're obligated to wear it no matter what distance you ride, because of safety and bla bla bla. In a bus, you don't even have seatbelts, it's a bigger vehicle, alot of people, it brakes strongly often. Where is the safety in there? It's like the buses with places for people to ride standing instead of sitting. How can you justify car seatbelt rules when you can ride standing in a bus? Sorry for the off-topic though, we're accidently changing the subject.

Hey there Randy, welcome to gearhead central. :) Chevy Truck Club, I'll have to check it out.

Ricardo, it's not practical, it's the only thing I can see against it, people are always standing up and sitting down, but I wonder where is the safety in those cases.

Oh man, I hope I can answer you now good things, but at the moment I am still doing my driving lesson and everytime I drive with my instructor, I must say it is too rare that I do have fun, oh wait, oh yes, the first day drive I was still having fun but then as it goes on, I usually have stress  I can not wait to finish my driving lesson, do the driving exam and have my license! Then I can probably get back to this thread and share any good :)
