I am old school and I still use a map, even though maps are hard to find in stores. What I usually do is print directions off of Google and use Google's map. Do you use a GPS or the good old fashion map?

I use to prefer a map over GPS, but I haven't used one ever since my brother recommended a nice app called Scout GPS. Nothing beats a physical map though. You never know when your phone might fail on you.

When I tried using the GPS on my phone, the small screen is a bit of a hassle since you have to swipe or scroll depending if you use touch screen or not to view farther areas. At least with a map the whole area is pretty much visible on a large paper. So I guess maps are better even if they are old school.

A map doesn't normally fit in your pocket. I use a GPS. Normally it is because I'm going to a spot I haven't been to and didn't know I was going.

I drive truck so I need help to find a sport every now and then. I should have a map as well bit I can use my phone GPS most times. I use to use a go's in my old job but the previous driver of that truck left a map in there which I had to use more then once.

I will use what is available.

I am an old school too. I usually use a map or ask questions along the way. If I am traveling with my daughter she is always quick to toss the map aside and go to her smartphone but inquiring always works best for me, especially when I am in the deep rural areas.

I use my phone GPS for the most part.. It's quick easy and I can have it tell me turn by turn navigation if I need it.

I would never waste money on a dedicated GPS, however I only keep a state map in my glovebox. So if I'm going somewhere out of state or that requires more detail than the state map provides, I usually use the GPS on my phone. I review the trip before I leave and I'm pretty good about remember roads.

It depends on what I'm doing. If I need to be somewhere specific on time I'll use GPS, however, if I'm on a road trip then I love to use maps. You never know what you'll find by going off the beaten path. I've discovered a ton of restaurants, shopping, and cool scenic views by using maps and driving in a weird direction for a bit.

GPS, every time. Much easier, and simpler, than a regular map.

I love maps ! I have always used maps to find my way somewhere, and usually had several in the glove box of my little pickup. Sometimes, even with a map, you need to ask for directions; but usually , if you are a proficient map reader, a good map is all you need to get where you are going. For many years, my husband was the official "driver" and I was the "navigator" that read the map, helped watch for the roadsigns, and let him know when and where to turn so that we could get where we were going. When we moved cross-country, I was the one reading the map, watching for the good truck-stops to fuel up the U-haul trucks, and passing along all that information to our little convoy, on the CB radio.
    It was fun ! !

Now, I have a GPS app on my iPad, so if I am going to drive in a town that I am not familiar with, it is truly handy to use the iPad app, and have the map right there displayed in a size that is easy to read, and look at the little arrow that shows where you are at, and where you are going.
I think that the GPS is a great invention, but I also think that it is good to know how to read a map, so that you can do that should the need arise.
It is similar to the ability to tell time from a clock with numbers and hands on it. Many younger people have grown up with a digital clock, and have no idea how to actually tell time without one.

All my life I've actually struggled quite heavily with reading maps. It's not that the idea is too hard for me, but I find it extremely time-consuming and something that takes adventure and fun out of your trips. Once GPS became available I found it a whole lot more appealing. I like the fact that GPS is interactive and allows you to concentrate on your journey more than anything else. I would definitely pick GPS over a map any day. I just think it's a whole lot more convenient and it gets you to your destination.

I just toss a coin and hope for the best. Just kidding. I use both a map and a GPS. I always keep it into mind to bring a map with me whenever I travel, I always reference the map for the general location of where I'm going and just use the GPS to pinpoint the specifics. But for the most part, the GPS serves me pretty well enough that I won't be needing the map, but still it's handy to have a map at your disposal, who knows, in case of a catastrophic disaster and the satellites went off you still have your map with you.

Well, maps are sometimes more practical if you're travelling with someone, so we try and keep one in the car, just in case. The issue is of course when you're driving alone, you need to pull over to look at a map, while with a GPS you only have to plug in your destination once and continue to get directions. That's the theory at least.

I think GPSs are really hand, but my car doesn't have one and I don't have a smartphone, so I just go. We are trying the GPS on my wife's phone to see if we like it, we are not in a rush to use it though. :)

Phones are so advanced these days that you don't really need a GPS. Just get one of those phone holders and you are done. To be honest though, having both map and a GPS might not be a bad idea. After all, you can never be too safe when travelling in unknown areas.

I only use my phone. I just made a truck pickup that spanned from Long Island through Western Connecticut with my phone, and on a lot of back roads. You can't beat the ease of having just one device..and I use to be a map enthusiast.

Yep, most smart phones have GPS so no point in having a GPS really. Even though I haven't tried it myself I've seen people using them and they seem useful, just a little strange hanging there in the middle of the car...

I've tried the GPS this weekend and it was pretty comfortable really, this lady over the phone was telling us where to turn, so it beats the map anytime... :D
