Do you use a GPS or the good old fashion map?

Hi Greg it is good to see you here too LOL. I prefer the GPS it is just more technological and quicker than a map. I mean I never knew how to read a map in my life. My dad knew how to read maps when we would go to places. GPS would adjust to the direction you are going to your destination.

 

When I drive I usually check out Google Maps and map out the route in my head ahead of time. I find GPS to be a bit distracting for me. My girlfriend uses that Waze app which also warns you of police speed traps and she swears by it. She uses it everyday. I prefer Google Maps if I do use GPS the rare time I have to. Usually on longer road trips I'll have a GPS on board.

I remember the old days of paper maps taking road trips with my family. My dad always put me in charge of the map because I was the best at giving directions.

 

I never used maps so do not ask me how to LOL. I would probably get people lost in the wilderness. I do not go on road trips since my family does not travel very often.

 

LOL, you know that this exists for quite a while you know? Sometimes it just takes a while for us to try new technologies, but when we do we wonder how we have been living before that.

 

GPS all the way, I actually travel more now because of them.
I hated maps, they get outdated so quick and really can't use them while driving so you had to reply on your passenger to tell you where you are.

 

I found the GPS really convenient, no more need to ask people around or to be lost, the machine simple tells us everything we need to know.

 

I prefer to use a GPS mainly because I'm the new generation and I prefer to get told step by step where to go and how to get there rather than trying to figure it out myself.

 

I've used a GPS only for quite a few years now, so far it hasn't failed me.
I do keep a "regular" map in the glove box though, you never know when you might need it and it takes up almost no room at all.

 

GPS are always convenient when traveling. I think that the whole technology of the GPS is just improving. My dad has two of them but hardly uses them at all.

 

I've never learned to use a map so I stick to using a GPS. I'm terrible when it comes to directions so I need to depend less on a GPS and spend some time learning areas. I only memorize what I absolutely have to.

 

The GPS app on my phone is really slow and freezes a lot so I hate to use it. I do like maps, but the big problem with it is, some roads aren't always marked with their name. I was riding my bike one time over 8 miles with written down directions, and I passed a street 5 times because it was just marked with a "One Way' sign. Because of this alone, I usually opt for a GPS instead. I should really get a new phone or app though because it seems like I'm always fidgeting with it to work for me.

 

Wow I am totally shocked lol! I thought for sure there would be more old schoolers like me who prefered a map. I guess its a sign of the time that I am getting too old and I need to get with modern times lol.

Haha, you still using a map soulwatcher? So just try the GPS to see if you will go back to it, I doubt it!

 

Omg a map? Seriously?! Of course that I use a GPS. I couldn't imagine myself with a map in my hand and searching for a right track.

 

Same here. I use the old school method of printing directions from Google or Yahoo. I have a good memory and sense of direction of where I am going to find a destination. However, I wouldn't mind using a GPS if that option was available to me.

 

I have used google maps a lot of times, I think it's pretty good, but once we have a GPS google maps is something from the past or at least there is no longer the need to print them.

 

Not to mention that a GPS might try and drive you into a field. But then a map will do the same unless you're constantly buying update versions of it, which is something people often forget;maps go out of date

 

I've always used a GPS, I just can't use a map for the life of me, I must be dyslexic or something, it just seems so hard to pinpoint where you are and just follow it. But, of course like everyone has the GPS has failed me.

I was driving on the motorway, heading back to London after a trip, the GPS suddenly goes off, no questions asked, my car still was running, so I pulled over and tried to see the problem, couldn't figure it out, it just turned off. Luckily I already knew the way back home, so I drove back home and emailed the GPS manufacturer and they asked to mail it to them, once I had got it mailed to them they couldn't figure what was wrong with it, so they just sent back a replacement. I still got that GPS today, serves me well.

 

Not only does my phone have great GPS, but my car has a built in navigation too (incase my phone is dead and I'm lost).
