LOL. With what?

It was completely under before that. The Jeep was on all four tires so there was no issue with it falling on me. And I had a jack stand under the hitch to hold it and put a bolt in it right away. I also didn't have my head under the hitch before I had the bolts in it so it couldn't fall on my head.

I installed a flagpole on the Jeep to fly a Canadian flag for Canada Day on Wednesday. I will post up how I did it later. It has been a busy week.

So here is how I attached my flag pole to the Jeep. I used some tips I received from a guy in the Nova Scotia Jeep Club who does it this way. I added some mods that I felt would help as I did it. I can over do things at times. This might be one of them but it worked and didn't take much time.

First I bought a wood pole from Canadian Tire. Here is were over doing something bites me in the ass. I went with the 1" diameter to get extra strength. Plus I forgot to ask the guy in the club what size he used. 1" ended up being too thick. Not a huge issue. I was going to shave it down on one end to make it fit and give it a flat surface to lay against the bracket. Just as I was getting ready to do this I realized that I had an old mop or broom handle in the garage. Thankfully I have an issue with throwing things away.

First thing I did was sanded the handle. Wanted it to look decent. It is holding the Canadian flag.




Yes I have to clean my desk again. That is on my to do list. Here is the flag ready for action. I used the flag to mark the spots for groves. That was one of the tips he gave to keep the zip ties in place.



Here is one being cut out. I held on a zip tie, marked it, cut the lines with a knife and then used a chisel to remove some material.


My daughter wanted to help out. She wanted to sand it so I didn't get a splinter.



I did two for the flag and then three for zip ties around the mount. I cut a flat spot on the bottom end of the pole. It helped keep it away from the paint After that I taped the body so I didn't scratch the paint.



After attaching it with zip ties I noticed it moved a little side to side. It wasn't much but more then I wanted. I tried to pull them tighter but that was all they had so I took them off. I remembered that I kept the old inner tube when I replaced the one in my daughters bike (remember when I said I had a hard time throwing things away?) and I cut sections of that to fit on the pole between the zip ties for grip.



This helped a bit. I had extra zip ties and put some over the tube. This helped a lot. I found it made it tighter. There was still a small amount of movement and I didn't want it falling over on the way to the Canada Day events. So lets go for overkill. I grabbed some Paracord (great stuff) and tied it off to both rubber pads that the spare tire rests against.





And here it is, ready for the open road.



This worked out great. Used it for about a week before removing it. A really long drive on the highway did the flag in. It started to tear. It make short trips to work on the highway fine. I'm happy with it. For next year I want to weld up my own hitch mounted flag holder. I have some of the parts already. I would like to do that for this fall. I have something I want to do with it then.

I did a friends rear brakes on his JKU and then a few days later I realized I needed to do my rear brakes as well.

About a month ago I did a little touch up on mine and a friends Jeep. There is a support bar in front of the rad that has a bit of rust on it. If someone could see it, they were standing too close. But we couldn't stand it. We pulled off the grills, sanded and painted them. We used Krylon rust protector. It is fast drying and works at low temps. So far I'm really happy with it. We will see how it holds up.

I bought some new toys for the Jeep. I bought a Sony HDR-AZ1, a Sony suction cup mount and a hitch carrier with a ramp.

I am loving the AZ1 so far. I have taken some test video with it. I just need to edit it and post it up. Can't wait to try it off road.

I wanted a dash mount for it. I want a ton of mounts and straps for it. They can be expensive. I almost bought a kit on Amazon that came with a ton of different harnesses and mounts. It had some really good reviews and some poor ones. I was close to buying it and then went back to my local Henry's (I bought the AZ1 from them) and they had a Sony dash mount for $40 on sale for $25. I thought it would work for what I wanted and the quality looked good. So far it is working great. I'm glad I bought it over the cheaper set.

The carrier is in perpetration for a snowblower I plan to buy in a week or so. I want to be able to haul it around on the Jeep to do moms driveway and my In laws if they don't end up paying to have it cleared. I didn't want to stuff it in the Jeep and risk damaging the hard top or any of my interior so I took tools with me and built it in the parking lot of the store I bought it from. That gets a few looks.






The last two came out blurry. I will get better shots next time I have it on. I was in a rush. It should work good. The only issue is I can't fold the ramp flat with it installed. The tire is in the way. I need another 2" to clear the tire. But that isn't a huge issue. I will only be using it when I have to haul something. So I can put it in the hitch but not all the way. Lift the ramp and hook in the supports. Then put in the hitch pin and anti rattle clamp. Not a big deal. As long as the 26" snow blower fits on without me removing my tire I will be happy. I think it will be tight but just squeeze in. I hope I don't need to get an extension for it.

Well I have some late news for this thread. Tomorrow will be three weeks since I have traded in my 2012 JK Sport. It was a kinda tough to do. I wasn't happy selling my first motorcycle and I wasn't really happy trading in my first Jeep. I was excited for the new one though so I had mixed feelings. I traded my 2012 JK Sport 6 speed manual in for a 2016 JK Rubicon 5 speed auto. It is weird getting an auto after searching so hard for a manual in my first search. I miss my manual on road. A lot. But I played around on a empty lot that I had my sport on and the auto was nice there.

I will be starting a build thread on the new one. I plan on building this one up. I kept on holding off on upgrades because some of the upgrades I want, came with a Rubicon. So I was waiting to see if I would be able to upgrade at some point. This spring would have been it. Find a deal on a Rubicon or the upgrades were going to start on the Sport. Let the fun begin.
