I have recently bought a car cover because my car is just parked at the side of the road. I bought it for 60 bucks. It's susceptible to scratches and other things that could damage the car. Do you use a car cover too? What are the the pros and cons of using a car cover?

Nope, I don't use a car cover. I too have a car parked outside opposite of my house but I never bothered to cover it. I use it daily so if I have to cover it everytime, it's going to be too much work. Besides, my car is quite old so I don't mind some scratches here and there. I guess if you really one to keep the car clean, a cover is a good idea. Just make sure it doesn't get tangled up in things or get blown off by strong wind.

I don't use a car cover right now, mostly because I don't see the need of it right now. The weather here is more than just pleasant; very warm and not windy at all. Plus only my neighbor are around ;) no worries about people trying to damage my car in anyway or anything like that.

I don't use one right now for a number of reasons.

    1. My wife's car is used so much it would be a pain to use one.
    2. My car isn't really worth covering. You can buy covers worth more then my TL.
    3. It would mean getting up earlier in the morning to remove it. That should be reason number one.
I'm getting a Jeep this year and there are covers you can get to cover the passenger compartment if you don't have any top on it. That is something I wouldn't mind having. Not sure I would need it too often though.

Another issue is that I feel a car should be clean before being covered. If not the item mentioned to protect from scratches could cause them.

Nope I don't use one, car is in garage like 99% of the time when it's not being driven or washed so no cover needed here, I believe that car covers also help to protect the paint from getting faded if the car stands in the sun too long.

No, I don't have a car cover or a garage for that matter. I just have my car parked in my yard and I live in an area where the weather is pretty good all year round so I don't really worry about anything damaging it. Once I get a brand new car one day, it might be a totally different story then!

Hmmm, does the car paint still fades under direct sunlight? I thought new car paints no longer have such an issue. I have my car parked outside 24/7 for two years but never noticed any sign of fading. If the paint really fades, I might consider covering it up.

I have never used them. I don't have to have to deal with covering and uncovering it everyday.

I am not sure if the paint still fades, with todays technology it should'nt!, although here in the RSA the sun is blazing hot most days so even if it does'nt fade the paint I have seen many instances of heat actually causing cracks in the dashboard, steering wheel and other interiors. Could just be wear and tear but the intense heat must have something to do with it.

I use a car cover but then I am not too committed to putting it on every night. The main advantages of the cover is that:

    1. People usually pass with caution around a covered car and hence it stays secure
    2. Remains clean
    3. Kids don't try to climb on the car

The flipside though is that in the rainy season the cover accumulates water or moisture, leading to rusting.

Not now but I have used car cover in the past. I had to stop because it was quite a job having to roll it out in the evenings and deal with it in the mornings again. It can also be a bit bothersome when you are in a haste to go and you have to take care of it first.

Nope. I don't have a car cover or a garage I can park my car in. It just sits in the driveway and gets a bath once a week in the summer and wheneve the weather cooperates in the winter. Probably isn't the best for the paint job, but its just the family ride. I have never used a car cover...just simply never wanted to fool with one. Just get in the car and go..
