    2016 Audi A6 TDI Quattro

Subtle improvements to Audi’s dapper A6 and slinky A7 bring none-too-subtle changes to their price tags for 2016. At least the horsepower and MPG numbers are also trending upward.

    -
The 2016 A6 starts at $47,125, up $1400 from 2015, and delivers 32 more horsepower from its 2.0-liter turbo four (now 252) and jettisons the CVT in favor of a seven-speed dual-clutch (borrowed from the S6 and S7). If you never before realized the A6 came standard with front-wheel drive and a CVT, that’s because Audi likes to pretend this base model doesn’t exist despite its stellar gas mileage; the new version, with its seven-speed dual-clutch, rings in at 24 mpg city, 35 mpg highway.

    2016 Audi A7 TDI Quattro

Your local dealer prefers to stock the 2.0T quattro, which jumps by $1500 to $49,325 and sees fuel economy increase from 20/29 mpg to 22/32. The creamy eight-speed ZF automatic graces this car and all upper trim levels including the diesel TDI. For $58,325, the 3.0T quattro’s supercharged V-6 brings 23 more horsepower (matching the 333-hp S4) and hits 20/30 mpg on the EPA cycle (up from 18/27). The Prestige trim level, which is only available with the 3.0T or the TDI, now offers standard LED headlamps, a head-up display, and Bose surround sound. The 3.0 TDI, previously available only in Prestige trim, adds a midgrade Premium Plus version for 2016 (but it’s still $800 more than a 2015 TDI Prestige and costs $60,425). Fuel economy gets a 1-mpg bump in the city, to 25/38 mpg.

The 2016 A7 doesn’t realize any efficiency gains, but the car’s smoking hotness hasn’t waned since its 2011 introduction. The base 3.0T quattro—no fours or FWD here—retains its enormous premium over the mechanically identical A6. It’s now $69,225, or $2400 more than 2015. The A7 3.0 TDI jumps by $2100 to $71,325. There are no additional standard features for either model. Fuel economy is a relatively thirsty 18/28 mpg on gasoline and an impressive 24/38 mpg on diesel.

    2016 Audi S6

For the S models, the pricing news is mixed. The 2016 S6, which deliver 450 horsepower from Audi’s sinewy 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, lowers its point of entry by $4600, to $71,825. However, the S6 now goes without the previously standard torque-vectoring rear differential and driver-selectable steering effort. That equipment, along with a sport exhaust, becomes part of a $3500 sport package. In the top-dog S6 Prestige, prices are down by only $200 but city mileage increases by 1 mpg to 18 mpg while the highway figure stays at 27 mpg.

For the S7, which Audi only offers tha in Prestige trim, the price goes up by $400 to $83,825. Finally, the tariff for the blisteringly quick, 560-hp RS7 increases by $2400, to $109,825—but drivers will also need to budget for speeding tickets.
