I have experienced this where I thought that I had some casual friendships via online business activities and associations. However, I went through a long period of health issues and never received any kind of contact from them wondering what happened to me. I had pretty much just dropped off the edge of the planet, but they didn't bother to ask about me. So, that told me that it was strictly business. I don't plan to have much else to do with them when I get back to where I was before things went south. It's a shame, too. A simple, singular email just touching base would have been all I needed.

Hmm, that's a tricky one, because if all you have discussed about was business matters, then it was indeed a strictly business relationship to begin with. But if you have discussed personal stuff with them and anything under the sun, then it is indeed disappointing to not hear from them at all.

Have you ever heard the expression "FAIR WEATHER FRIEND"? I sounds like that is the kind of "friends" you have. I have had (FWF's) and I learned the hard way by depending them only to be disappointed in the short term and ultimately in the long run. I am most fortunate now to have two really true friends that have proven their friendship time and time again even if I do or say something stupid or get into a potentially harmful situation. They have the patience of "JOBE" and for that I am truly thankful.:)

I'm just your friend because I think you have big money hiding somewhere in your apt.! So far all I have found is 1000 pieces of odds and ends that even you didn't know you had! :p

    And some damn fishheads!

I have tried very hard to ween all those kinds of people out of my life. Now people like that, that are family, is hard to get rid of and that person probably won't change.

I do tend to keep some UNNECESSARY items. In the past I threw away items that I thought I would no longer be useful only to regret it. That made me gun shy so I kept items that were not needed immediately but may have use later on. I would rather keep something I don't need immediately but may need later as opposed to going out to buy that item again; especially with the world economy being what it is.:)

Regarding fair weather friends, I also hate them, so to avoid attracting one, I make sure that new acquaintances won't be able to benefit anything from me, especially materially or financially if I just met them. The person who sincerely wants to be your friend will still be there to get to know you, while others won't make an effort.

I think that all of my friends are commercial friends. I have always known it but I still call them my friends. The good thing about having a commercial relationship is that if you are also in the relationship for other reasons other than just being a friend, then the other person has no right to judge you. The bad thing about it is that you might not really get any response from them when you ask for their help.

I think that you have to look for ways to benefit yourself from any relationship that you have no matter how good or bad it might seem.

I was born and raised in and live still in New York though. So this city makes you independent to a fault at a very early age. Not to mention I was and still am an only child. So I think I'm beyond reproach now when it comes to needing anyone to lean on.

A friendship where the object is not the people in it is no friendship at all. I have few friends for this very reason; I don't like being used. Being a friend first and needing something is one thing; I'm happy to oblige if I can. Only hanging around when you need something is another thing entirely, and I'd rather just cut you off right then and there.
