I actually never used to be a cat person until one of my buddies change my views on them. I always used to hate how they would just ignore you and not listen to what you say almost as if they don't need you. Then I came to appreciate how independent they were and my friend's cat was one of the most loving animals I've ever met. But I do have two dogs, I have a Labrador who's the old man of the house and I have a baby girl and she's a pit bull who's spoiled rotten.

Cat's are really independent, and the I like how they will come to you when they really want to, unlike dogs who are always following you all the time because of the "pack mentality" that they have. So cats are the perfect pets for those people who don't want pets that need constant attention and maintenance.

I agree cats are independent but that is a plus as far as far as I am concerned. I have two cats one of which is the mother of my second cat. Both are very affectionate and seek out my attention. They both sleep with me when they decide to come home and they both have learned to come to me when I call them. Granted for cats that is somewhat unusual and I am fortunate their "cat-o-nalities" are more like a dog's than a feline. I'm also lucky in that both are very affectionate for felines.:)

I currently don't have a pet, but used to have a dog. I am definitely a dog person, but bigger dogs not the small lap dogs. Eventually I will get another dog, but just don't have the time or money to have one right now. I like cats, but I am really allergic to them. I swear they know that I am, and because of this whenever I am around them they won't leave me alone. One of my friends has a cat that doesn't like anyone, often not even her, but when I am over the cat is always following me around and rubbing up against my leg, jumping in my lap and just trying to see me get sick :)

Cats are very sensitive to people who like them. It is too bad you are allergic because the cat is only showing it senses you are a good person with a good heart as they say here in Thailand. I have been adopted by two cats who now belong to me by their choice. :)

The article was a good one. Unfortunately I think my cats are already too old to teach toilet skills. It is probably best that way as I have arthritis in all my major joints and setting up the toilet system would be prohibitive for my joints.:)

I know cats and dogs have some sort of 6th sense like humans, so maybe she was really doing it on purpose. Who knows right? :D

That is awesome. I have never heard of a cat doing that. Only thing left is to teach your cat to flush :) Do you know if most cats are trainable like this?

Maybe if you place a cat treat on the flush knob, then maybe when he always steps on it then he might just learn how to flush due to constant repetition. :D

I have two. A 6 year old female miniature schnauzer and a 1 year old male min-pin. I THOUGHT the min-pin was a rottweiler pup at first lol. Both are rescues. Both very small and very adorable. I love them a lot. My schnauzer is laid-back and well behaved, and my min-pin is rambunctious and annoying at times.

I'm curious to see what their offspring would look like, unless they aren't capable of having kids anymore. It looks like an interesting mix.

Actually three pets have me. I have been adopted by three of the neighborhood cats. As many of you out there in pet land know "people don't own cats, cats own people". Well that is the way it is here with my three cats. One I am raising from a kitten. She was born on the roof just under my flat along with her three siblings. As it turns out she is the only kitten left along with her mother. :)

I just share the pets in our complex. Most of them are cool and that is good enough for me as when I travel I don't have to worry about them. The only "personal" pets I have are the free range geckos who run around my walls looking for mosquitoes to eat.

I forgot about the geckos. Yep, I have them too when my cats don't either eat them or chase them away. I am also kind of popular with the other pets here as well especially one of the dogs that used to try to eat me up when I first moved in. However, I won her over with food. Yep, I was taught if you feed a dog it will not "bite the hand that feeds it" provided it is not sick or something. It worked with this particular dog and now I have a "friend" for life.:)

I do not have a pet. I love animals. I would love to have a cute dog. I am not a big fan of cats. I am not a big fan of small little puppies either. I like dogs because they are friendly, caring, empathetic, and sweet. Some dogs can be so needy. Cats on the other hand are usually more independent, at least from my observation.

I have four tarantulas right now. Grammastola rosea (rose hair), Pterinochilus lugardi (Fort Hall baboon), Avicularia braunshauseni (goliath pink toe), and a Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (greenbottle blue). RIP to my Haplopelma lividum (cobalt blue, immortalized on my left shoulder), a different G. rosea and my first one, an A. avic.
I name them all, I handle one of them (the others are aggressive and/or venomous) and I really enjoy studying them and caring for them. I have been an arachnid enthusiast since I was a little girl and I just never lost my fascination of insects and arachnids.

Normally I would say you are right when it comes to most cats. I however, have been lucky in that I have owned both and I find dogs have a reputation for being loyal but I have owned two rather exceptional cats in that they were very affectionate and loyal. In addition they were pretty good about responding to voice commands. One of the two is the one I have now here in Thailand. She was born close by and and adopted me after her three other siblings did not make it. Two were struck by cars and the third one I do not know what happened to it. My cat as a kitten was very curious and bold compared to her siblings. As far as affection is concerned she is one of the most affectionate cats I have ever known.:)

I have 2 cats, and both get on my nerves every now and again! Haha. Especially when they take my place on the sofa. What's especially annoying is when they walk around, waiting to be fed, and when I get up to feed them, one of them takes my seat while the other shows no interest at all in eating the food I've just put out!
How can a little furry animal be so fussy and conniving! Haha. Also the long, awkward stares they give me at night when I'm downstairs sitting alone... Scary stuff!
