I know some people who would die at the sight of being seen driving or riding in a run down vehicle, those people are usually the brand conscious ones. :D

So I was wondering if you won't mind being seen driving or riding an old and dilapidated vehicle?

I think that given the choice, most people (me;) ) would prefer to be seen rollin' around in, or driving, a nice ride:cool::D . That being said, I think that one has to have some pride of ownership. If the car is old, then it should be cleaner than a whistle, inside and out.

If a person just has to ride around in something that is dilapidated, they should make sure that that ride is clean inside and out as well. If a person feels self-conscious about the look of a vehicle, one should always try to do the best with what they have, until they can do better.

In my opinion, when a person does not keep a car clean and treats it like it is nothing just because they think the car is too old or dilapidated to be worthy of care, that person does not deserve a nice car anyway.

I don't mind. I have two old fashioned old model bikes in which I am still proud to ride with..

I could care less if the car I'm driving is dilapidated. Honestly, it just seems like such a whiny way to be, worried about how others perceive you all the time. I really don't like people like that. People are more concerned with what the next person thinks rather than worrying about what is really important. Like getting the money to buy that nice car!

When it comes to needing a ride and the only ride available is a run down one you can believe I would take the ride even if it means I have to be seen driving it. Frankly my feet do not care what others think if that is the only ride available and I need to get somewhere.

I'm better now. But I used to hate it. I had to drive some real POS vehicles!

Nope, what a car looks like isn't important; a car is for getting you places first and foremost, with things like how fun it is to drive and how it looks coming after. I grew up in a family where we drove cars until they died, which usually meant that they didn't look very nice anymore. I think whether I arrive on time somewhere gives more an impact on how people percieve me than how the car looks; I'd rather drive something sad looking but stable than something good looking and flaky.

I don't really like riding in a dilapidated vehicle. My truck has a cracked window and needs new tires. I am very conscious of the truck's condition every time I see it sitting in the driveway. Even pictures of the truck remind me that it needs help. I suppose my dilapidated truck is only a symbol for the real problem: money. If I had the money, I would get it fixed today. There are safety concerns with having bad tires and a broken windshield. I don't really like to drive anywhere with this truck. It's a shame because it is otherwise in great shape.

I wouldn't mind driving a dilapidated vehicle. I was also taught that who cares how people are thinking about you as long as the car can take you where you need to go. Also, I am not the kind of person who likes to show off.

I have drove some rough vehicles but I would prefer something that looks good. It doesn't have to be fancy but I would enjoy it more if it looks decent. For the same reason that I put on clean clothes.

Yup as long as it is nice and clean it won't matter if you own an old, common, econo car..

Thanks guys for all your replies, I think that if the person does drive around with a dilapidated vehicle, then maybe the concern is not having the money to get it fixed, just like what ecigsnet said. So we should really not care about what people will say in general. Although we can't blame our human nature for wanting to drive around in a nice looking or new model of vehicle.

This thread was actually inspired by an old high school classmate of mine. Back then he was driving a not so new Toyota model that belonged to his parents, and whenever he invites me to ride with him because he lives near my house, he would blast the music way to loud and even asks me to roll down my windows. Obviously he wants to be seen driving a car. Okaay. It's not even a new model, but for a high school kid to be seen driving by the general public, maybe he thinks he looks "cool" doing it.

I would drive any car, but I feel it would be much more enjoyable driving a nice, attractive car.

I have been very fortunate in this life to know both wealth and semi poverty. When I had money I'd usually have a year old Porsche and when I was broke, any old POS would do. It was ME, the same person behind the wheel!

My dad had a (77ish) plymouth valare wagon... should I say any more? lol.

Anyway, he would take my children to school in it sometimes, and they would duck down in the car and make him drop them off about a block from the school.

The image below is probably the exact type, except his was blue and RUSTY, and we had a kite string hooked to the windshield wipers. Gosh, I miss that car, and my dad

I hope you were able to take a pic of that car as a "remembrance" of sorts. You know, for nostalgic purposes. :)

Really depends where you're going. I wouldn't if I'm going to a homecoming or especially NOT to a business meeting. I mean I know what you're saying about caring about how people look at you but when you're doing business, its all about that. Adds to your credibility.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that your destination is also equally important in determining what car you will use for a specific occasion or purpose. You definitely don't want to show up in your prom or fetch your date with an not so good looking vehicle. :roflmao:
