I'm just wondering which of the 2 would you prefer, because those 2 have more limitations in what they can do as compared to a desktop or a laptop.

If I had to chose I would take a tablet over a netbook. But I would take a laptop over both if I could only have one.

I don't want either a netbook or a tablet, both are cheesy versions of better options in my opinion.

I think they were seen as the answer for reading books on a screen but that's such a small niche that they had to find other uses and most people either want small and mobile or large and desktop or laptop.

There just isn't much demand for them, I think we'll see them disappear soon enough.

I have to disagree about the demand. Unless that is just for the netbooks. Tablets do pretty well and I don't think they will be going anywhere soon. Computers are changing. Tablets are very useful devices. They don't replace computers but they are a great addition. A computer, tablet and a smartphone make a great treo. I use all three daily. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

I frequently think that my desktop is now old technology (not my computer specifically just the general desktop format) with laptops being the next newer progressive step from desktop models. At one point I think many individuals went to laptops from desktops. Now I guess if I was to pick, I would opt for a laptop vs a tablet or netbook. But right now my desktop is serving me. But if I was to replace, well I am not sure. But I don't think I would get a tablet or a netbook over a laptop.

For me ultimately I want to get a new desktop, two new laptops so the kids each have one to use, I will still have my tablet and a smartphone. I like to use my desktop to work on this forum.

A tablet is convenient for easy and portable reading in my opinion, because even while lying down, you can still use it. Desktops and laptops require you to sit, so if you want to read a bit to be able to feel sleepy, then you would have difficulty doing that with a desktop or a laptop. I think I would want a netbook over a tablet since I use a usb dongle to connect to the internet, and I find it hard to type using a touch screen, so I would pick one that has a keyboard.

Well you would get to lay in some positions with a tablet that would be hard or impossible to do with a laptop/netbook. But with a netbook or laptop you can lay on your side and have it sit up without holding it which is nice. But then with the proper case you can do that with a tablet as well and some will have a keyboard included in that. The great thing about that is there are sooo many options out there right now. The bad part is trying to decide which one fits your lifestyle the best.

If you had asked me a few years ago, I'd have said netbook. These days, though, tablets have increased in power and usability, so unless we're talking about doing some long-term typing (term paper or something), I'll say tablet. I accidentally cracked the screen of my netbook a few months back and haven't missed it since I bought my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 around Christmas.

Call me old fashion but I'm really not into tablets or handhelds or online via cellphones. I prefer to do any computing I have in the comfort of my own home on my little laptop. For me the cellphone is for talking. Although my phone does have TV and RADIO I seldom use them. They do come in handy if I am traveling on a bus or train around the country or if I'm at the pool.:)

I would like a tablet over a notebook.. a notebook doesn't even have remotely good PC specs, so I might as well settle for the tablet, and having a tablet is cool :) Very mobile and diverse.

Hey, every single product I've ever looked at has had some sort of chart saying more and more people are using them but that just doesn't impress me. If I was the last one on earth still using a PC I would be quite happy to still use it, ya know?

My PC provides me with all I need and it doesn't GPS track me or scan for rfid signals nearby like most portable devices.

What a concept. The cell phone is for making calls. You and me both bigal. I have a low end digital camera that I use for photos. I don't use a phone for photos, or games and I don't see any need to text message. I like email. Sure it is a tool but not one I need at this point.

You talk on a cell phone? Do you still have an 8 Track player? LOL Just kidding. Its funny. I don't talk a whole lot on my cell phone. I use email, BBM and other instant messaging apps, internet and so on but don't talk a whole lot. I remember a time before I ever had a cell phone. I also remember not wanting to be without it once I got one at the age of 16 I think.

Nice to see different inputs, because I'm really considering what gadget to buy, a tablet, a netbook, or a laptop. But I think that I would make my purchase worth it and I'll just go for the laptop instead, what do you guys think? Care to suggest any particular entry level brands/models?

I'm a laptop person. I'm just so used to the keyboard that my hands are positioned in the correct form for typing. I find it a little hard to type on a tablet. I only play angry birds on my tablet, lol.

RIGHT ON! I could not agree with you more! My little laptop is just fine for my needs. Besides when I am out and about it is bad enough my cellphone has some of that junk on it. My phone is for calls ONLY! Once in awhile I'll send text messages but that is about the extent of it. I like to listen to the radio or watch TV when I am traveling on the bus to Bangkok sometime. :)

So if you want to watch tv while travelling, then you might like this cellphone model that's popular here in our country that has TV as one of it's features.

My phone does have all of the extras which is probably the main reason I bought it. Some of the features like the ability to record songs I may hear on the radio come in handy often. The T.V. feature is really handy when traveling on the bus around the country. If there is nothing on the t.v. there is always a game on it I can play to pass the time.

Yeah but haven't you noticed that no high end cellphone maker as of the moment bothers to have a tv feature in their phones, of course with the exception of those old Nokia circa 2006 models that have tv on it. So I guess tv in phones is not really attractive to the consumers nowadays.
