Welcome to Gearhead Central @Doug Carter!

In my opinion, winter tires are a must if you have to travel a lot in the winter. Accidents are a problem. As well as the lost personal time of sitting on a slight grade while the car behind you just drives by with winter tires on.

Another thing is the compound of tires. Winter tires will stay softer in the cold weather and give you better traction.

I have to buy 8 tires for the Corolla and TL now. Fun. And a set of winter rims for the Corolla so we don't ruin Lisa's alloys.

Instead of winters I think I might just put chains on my summers :)

The chains might add too much weight to the Corolla. I'm not sure if that Hot Rod can turn the tires with them on.

Lol, chains are a must out west for sure. I never owned winter tires until moving to Ontario 15 years ago. Now that I have used them I will never go without. Not just for the stopping but when the light turns green I am actually able to move forward right away. I have bought winter tires from a place in Mississauga called Tires23 they have great prices.

We are going to try Bridgestone Blizzaks on the Corolla. I hear good things about them but have never tried them. I will get a chance to try them this year and see if they live up to the hype. Never drove the Corolla in the snow so I have no idea how it will do but hopefully it does well with them. We are getting them and the winter rims at Costco.

In all seriousness I do believe having
winter tires is crucial, combined with a

4x4 even better! A couple winters ago I had to pick up the hubby (nasty nasty storm) , came upon a
rather steep hill, cars and trucks stuck along both sides of the road all the way
up, there was a narrow path between
Them. As I continued on my way this crazy women jumps out of her car and starts yelling " you might as well stop here, there's no way you're getting up the hill" as soon as she moved out of the way I continued on my way and sailed up the
hill without a problem. In your face lady

Yeah winter tires. I guess depending on where you are. But where I am, north of Toronto, my
answer is yeah. Good move. Three-season tires do not cut it.

We had the Blizzaks put on the Corolla today. I'm surprised at how quite they are. If you really listen you can hear them but they are pretty quite for a winter tire.

Now I need my winters put on my TL. I will get that on Thursday and get my alignment. Then I'm ready for the white stuff to hit the road and test out the Blizzaks. On the TL I'm just putting on a used set of winters I picked up. Not sure what I'm doing with the car and it needs more work so I saved some money to do some other things.
