No, no, and hell no. It may seem like a good idea at first. But if your car is found in the progress of illegal activity (i.e. buying weed), an accident happens, speeding, etc....you'll have to foot the bill or pay the fine or what have you. And with the way folks text and drive, and talk on their phones and drive, and do like....everything while driving? No, buy your own car.

We have two vehicles. My wife drives the car most times now but can take the SUV anytime she wants.

I went down on my brother in laws dirt bike years ago. I felt really bad about it. I broke the clutch lever. My wife had to come pick us up in my truck. He was going away to a baseball tournament that next day. I said I would fix it before he got back. He wanted short levers and I was going to upgrade them for him but the price was crazy on them. So I order a stock on and installed it for him. The day he come back he jumped on his bike and went for a ride.

BTW if anyone has a exotic car or muscle car and had the admin of their favorite site on their can drive list, just let me know when it would be a good time to stop over. :D

Well I honestly don't want people driving my car but let's face it, friends are friends and family are family lol! Honestly I totaled my brothers car once, while he was driving and it was because I fell asleep! Terrible mistake, but we were young and his mom didn't believe I didn't get any sleep, had to drive him two hours back home because he "didn't know the way"....

Anyway, I am still able to drive their cars because I think when I'm awake and not tired I'm pretty responsible. But since my car has insurance, I don't see a reason to worry. There is a few people who I extremely dislike driving my car, and they are usually only allowed to drive it if I'm in the car, due to their terrible concern for the people around them while driving. !

Thanks for the tip, I'll do that next time. Well that's what I'm afraid of too, like if ever I borrowed a car and I damaged it, if I had no money to pay for it then for sure my friend would be mad at me.

And I think that since we trust our better half in general, it's natural to let them drive our car, unless they're lousy and careless drivers.

My brother is in town right now. After work Friday I picked up and handed him the keys to my suv. I will get it back Sunday so I can get to work on Monday. I even picked up an extra shift today but I let him use it anyway and just got a drive to work with someone else.

I would let certain people who I trust drive my car. I would of course let my family drive and also certain friends. Anybody though would use my car if it were an emergency or something important. Over the years I've started being more lenient towards lending my car, but I'd only let other people drive my car if I know them and trust them.

    Never. Ever.

I might let someone I trust ride my bicycle, though. :)

@Flexin and @ bsge11, that's very nice of you guys to let others drive your car. I guess family members are given that trust by default. With friends, trusting them is quite tricky.

@Limcid, yeah I understand where you're coming from, after all, a bicycle is a lot cheaper compared to a car.

Yes, I let other people drive my car but most times I think about whether that person would be able to fix it if something that is their fault goes wrong with it while they are driving. Anyway, I know I can't be selfish because one day I may need to use theirs too.

i generally don't let other people drive my car but it depends on who is asking for it. naturally, if they cause any damage to the car then they pay for the damage.

I would let a family member or a close friend drive my car in case of need and that's it, it's not something to borrow or lend, too much responsibility involved.

Normally I would be fine with most of my friends/family driving my car, but right now it is barely running and has so many little quirks that would be difficult to explain to people that aren't familiar with the car. I let my girlfriend drive it because she knows what the different shudders and noises mean.

I know a lot of people that don't let other people drive their cars. I personally have never had an issue with it. Obviously I am not going to let someone who I just met drive my car, but if I have known them for a while and I trust them I really don't have a problem with them driving my car around.

I rarely let other people drive my car, I think the only other people who have driven it have been my parents and my father-in-law, and even then I feel a bit weird when I know someone else is driving it.

A thought just crossed my mind. If you have a "secret enemy", then you might as well offer your car to him since it has "quirks" and hopefully those quirks can help him get into a car accident, hahaha!

LOL, my secret enemy just might crash my car making me guilty just for the sake of it. But wait, if he's secret how do I know who he is? :p

The only time anyone else has driven my cars is when I'm sitting in the passenger seat beside them. Even then its a rare occasion. I got bitten many years back when I lent my car to a "friend" only to have it returned to me on the back of a tow truck. According to him the engine "just blew up" and he was doing nothing wrong. I didn't believe a word of it as engines don't simply blow up for no reason. I found out later on that he was really giving the car a hard time and had over revved it to the point where the engine failed. To fix the car was worth more than the car was worth so it got scrapped and my "friend" never bothered to apologize let alone offer to pay for any damage. Karma caught up with him in the end though, but that's another story :D

So no, I don't let anyone else (except my wife) drive my cars.

Talk about a bad experience David, interesting that you write it "friend", from friend he had nothing. I didn't need such a lesson not to let other people drive my car, it's just too much responsibility if something wrong happens.

Yes. I don't see a problem with that, as long as the other man or woman who drives it actually knows what he/she is doing and they won't wreck my car or make it dirty.
