I am sure you would have. Isn't it a cool concept to have a super electric car. It indeed has a luxury segment pricing. I love the cars. What is your opinion?

I like it. Their cars looks very futuristic and performance wise isn't bad. I only find that the screen is too big and people say that Tesla's can't make long roadtrips because of insufficient power. I've seen a video where the people test driving the Tesla had to turn off the aircon to make the trip.

Can't make long trips? They just went coast to coast on electric. I love their cars. Hope to drive one soon.

I have certainly heard of them. From what little I've read, it appears they are finally getting the electric car down right. Past attempts have been pretty bad, but it looks like the technology has really started to mature. :)

There is quite a bit about them on here. Some are just news feeds of storys on them. I have at least one thread on here as well. Here is one I just found of a new model.

Here is a story on a Model S owner that is said to be the first to do the coast to coast trip across the US. His name is John Glenney and he did the trip with his daughter Jill. http://www.mercurynews.com/business/ci_25010333/coast-coast-tesla-model-s

I don't know, that's what I heard when I saw the video. They were saving up on power and were afraid of turning on the aircon. They were testing the battery life of the car and drove to Vegas I think. Can't remember the details as it was almost a year ago when I watched it.

You have to recharge just like you would for fuel. Tesla has 70-82 supercharger charging stations that you can charge up at. In 20 Mins or so you can get a half of a charge. They have them in spots where you can use the bathroom, shop or eat while it is being charged.

They will also have the option to swap a fresh battery in minutes at some of them. So you could have a full charge in a third of the time it would take to fill your tank with fuel.

It's pretty much like you say Flexin, the superchargers are all over and you can charge them half in 20 minutes. Probably Tesla is the biggest electric car company?

You can't get everywhere yet. They have 74 superchargers in the US. They say they will have 98% of the US by 2015 plus parts of Canada. They are putting down big money to make electric cars a usable solution for people. If you spend most of your time in an area with one, you can save a lot of money. If your commute is short, you might only need a half charge every couple of days or so. And you can stop and charge it while your doing some shopping or getting a meal. You could even do it while getting lunch. That would mean you wouldn't have to charge at home very often. It will only cost to do the battery swap. Its a sweet set up.

Here is the map for North America and Europe. http://www.teslamotors.com/supercharger

It's good that they're pushing the technology out now. I hope that this thing can become global not too far in the future. This would reduce people's reliance on gas and fuel. We only have hybrid cars here for now and even this isn't very popular among drivers.

The idea is great and the concept too, so I'm sure the car will turn out to be a success, and will sell a lot.
But, to be honest, I don't know if I would buy one, I need more information in order to make a decision.

Great company and great cars, although a bit too expensive for me. They'll be launching a new cheaper car in the near future and if it's anywhere near as good as the Model S I'd be very interested in purchasing one myself. Incredible safety and huge fuel savings especially if you use their Supercharger stations, 20 minutes to charge and it's free.

Electric cars are the future, I don't question that, but for now they seem to be luxury cars, they are super expensive. As soon as the prices come down I'll be extremely interested.

    Welcome to Gearhead Central @Radium

Your right. 20 minutes can get you a half a charge for free. You could wait longer if there wasn't a line up and get a full charge. But driving around the city wouldn't use a lot so it would be more then perfect. With the 50 kw battery version I could make 6 trips to work on a charge. With the 85 kw battery I could do 8. That would save me $50-60 a week in fuel. Now that savings would be great but it wouldn't pay for the car itself. If I had that I would save a bit more because I would be driving it on the weekend. The TL is only used to go to work. We do our weekend driving in my @Lisa car. I want to test drive one. I need to see if I can set that up soon.

I have heard of telsa and i think that the whole idea of an electric car is remarkable. I just am not really sold on the price and i think that a lot of people are not too. The whole idea of having to pay a whole load of cash just to get the car in the first place to me seems to be shady and would hold me back from making the switch until i am ready financially to make the switch.

I wouldn't worry too much on the price for now. Since the technology is still new and not may car makers are into it yet, it's normal for the price to be high. When electric cars become well-known and more mainstreamed, there will be price cuts as more companies jump onto the bandwagon and competition is strong.

The price is also seems high on the Model S because it is an upscale model. It is not meant to compete with Honda Civics and so on. It is a luxury car and it comes with a luxury price. When they get more Supercharger stations set up it will make it easier to "sell" the lower priced model.

They call the doors "falcon wings." I wonder if they never heard of Mercedes gull wings. Or maybe they thought "falcon" sounds more dangerous.

Who knows, maybe their "falcon wings" design looks more falcon-like than gull-like from Mercedes. Might also be like you said, falcon sounds more awesome because I don't think "gull wings" is a patented term. Tesla just want to be more distinct I guess.

    Daimashin,

I think they can do long drives. Can you share the video just to get an idea? I suspect you were looking at some old ones.

I am with you on that one Flexin. Also the cars indeed look good.

That is true, technology indeed has matured. Now, what is required is a technology to charge the batteries in quick time. Almost in the time that we take to refuel our vehicles. That would be good.
