What is the best thing to use to remove minor scratches? Is using car wax the best route to go? I've tried this last time but it left a mark after using it so I'm not sure if it really works.

Wax will not remove scratches. It just protects the paint. I will explain it better tonight after working . I minor scratch can sometimes be removed with Scratch X.

Anything more would need a polish.

This has got me thinking? Would the same treatments for scratches, work for water spots?

Some light water spots it might work on. The deep ones it won't. I went to buff a car that had all kinds of deep pitting in the clear coat. It was bad enough to hold polish as I buffed it. That is how I found most of them. They were bad enough to think about re doing the clear coat or paint all together.

Here is the product. http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/products/g10307-scratchxreg-20/ I love it. Can't remember if I tried the 2.0 version. I have had at least two of the original. I have to check now but I have one in my garage that might be my second or third of the original or the new 2.o. It has many uses for small blemishes. I feel it is a must have for any car owner.

There are some wax type products that have products in them that will hide minor imperfections. Very minor. But they will come back as it washes away. Might last a couple weeks or so. It all depends on a lot of factors.

If you can catch your nail on it then it is too deep. In that case you have to look at buffing, wet sanding/buffing/polish or paint touch up.

This is kinda disheartening. I had bought the truck brand new. But wife wife and I parked outside while my Oldsmobile sat in the garage. It only took a couple of weeks to mess up the trucks paint. I should've waxed it when I first got the thing. I'll have to look into wet sand or polish.

Are they deep? It's worth trying Scratch X before doing anything else. You only want to go as aggressive as you need. This might do it.

Do you have any pictures of the spots?

They are pretty deep. I think the sun and heat baked them on or something. I'm in Fresno, Ca. You'll wake up at 6am and it will be 80-85 degrees during the summer.

I'll post pics either tonight when I get home or in the morning when the sun is out so you can see them.

So wax doesn't really work, no wonder it didn't remove the scratch but actually made it worse. So painful to see brand new paint gets scratched one week after it came out of the works. I'm going look up this Scratch X you mentioned.

I find it hard to believe it made it worse. I have often used "cleaner" type waxes to clean up scratches or if a little paint has transferred from someones door. I spot rub them out first, but then wax the entire vehicle so it doesn't "stick out" and quite honestly have had really good results.

Some waxes can dry and leave a chalky mess if it is built up in any area. That would be the only way I can see it making it worse. Unless after the rest of the paint is cleaned up and looking good, that scratch stands right out for him.

My old boss had a scratch on his Porsche. You could only see it if you were standing next to the car because of the location on the top of the fender. It drove him nuts. You would think it had neon flashing lights on it. :roflmao: My wife had one on the side of her car that drove me nuts because I could see it when I parked next to her. I did clean it up a bit but will get out the buffer once it warms up.
