I think we should just honk as a warning and not to complain about something because this can be really distracting. What do you guys use the honk for?

Some people honk way too much. Drives me nuts. I laid on the horn last night when a guy moved to the left lane, then seconds later cut back across in front of me to make a turn to the right.

But I don't use it for little things.

I generally use my horn in times of danger. But if not i generally stay away from it. I think that the problem for me most of the times is that i find honking to be a rude thing and so i do not really want to use it. I do find it distracting when people use it for way too many things

I honk as a warning. I think the only time I've ever honked is when someone was obviously not watching the road or when I was trying to scare an animal out of the street. My husband, on the other hand, total road rage. He honks when he is unhappy with the driver in front of him. I don't agree with his choices, but oh well. :)

I try not to use mine that often but if I do it can be any of eother warning or complaining. The last time I used it was in a carpark when someone didnt look when reversing out of a space and pulled straight oit in front of me.

The last time I honked was when I wanted to get the attention of the person who was walking on the sidewalk to move away from where I was. I don't really honk that much, it's annoying.

    I don't honk unless it's to get someone's attention.

If they're merging into my lane, on top of me, then I'll honk. I also slow down to a stop and honk if there are deer beside the road, which is really common here. It usually scares them enough that they take off so I don't worry about them jumping in front of me.

But yeah, I don't use honking as an anger/rage thing. It's simply just to get someone's attention or let them know I'm there.

Yes, I think that's the correct application for it. Once a guy honked me for some reason it distracted me and caused an accident, really unnecessary, it's not the point of it at all.

I normally honk to warn but there are others that just honk even when it is not important to do so. They may be at a stop light and they start honking before the light turns green. I tell you, it's just crazy out there because you may honk for a good reason and get cursed at by drivers and pedestrians alike.

When I honk I usually do it as a warning but I must admit sometimes when I get frustrated I do it as a part of my complaints. I guess it's better than flipping the bird lol.

I don't use the horn unless it is to warn someone of a possible danger. Examples of a pedestrian doing something stupid, someone not looking whilst changing lanes, someone who doesn't appear to notice an emergency vehicle, etc.

Beyond safety, its kind of obnoxious to use the horn. The only non-safety time I think I've used it was once when the lead vehicle stopped at a light wasn't paying attention, the light turned, he just stayed stopped, but a short "honk!" got him to wake up.

The few times that I have used my horn were to warn another driver. Honking to complain does absolutely nothing, but a horn can warn another driver that you're close and that he or she needs to move out of the way.

Both. But most of the time, it's to warn people of my presence. I blow my horn when I'm overtaking or when there's a pedestrian that's very close to the road. I don't usually need to honk my horn to complain but I did do it a couple of times.

I guess we all honked to complain really because the roads most of the times seem like a civil war, but I think we should not do it because we can be causing an accident by distracting other people.

I can't honestly say I even know what the horn in my car sounds like; I've never used it in the 3 years I've had my car. I feel like 90% of the time using a horn is seen as being rude, and can incite some road rage. I can understand if the guy in front of you falls alsleep at the wheel at a red light or something; but if he doesn't go fast enough at a stop sign or something for your liking than you are just being impatient.

The only time I honk anymore is if they are coming into my lane. If you watch the news there is way too much road rage these days. People are insane and will run you off the road or maybe get into a fight with you or they might have a gun and kill you.

That is wise Greg, I think we should not honk acting as the police, but we should honk if there is in fact danger and people need to warned, that's what the honk if for I think.

Whew! In my town, people have severe road rage problems. I'm serious. In one week there were 6 car accidents near my street where I live. I don't honk at all unless I see a potential accident and I honk for the other driver's attention. I did use it about a week ago when some jerk almost collided with me because he was looking the other way as he was driving into the lane I was in.

I never even use my horn i think its just for someone to be a butt hole. I just use it if you're about to kill me.

That's exactly what the honk is for, to prevent accidents and not cause them. If we honk when we should not we can distract ourselves and others and we can be the cause of the accident ourselves.
