Do you still remember it? I think I was 8 years old when my dad first taught me how to drive a car, well not really drive, more like operate a car. And the first time I hit the open road was when I turned 13. My dad and I were speeding on a freeway and he let me take the wheel until we reach an intersection. How about you?

I do still remember, if not the actual first time, at least how it went the first time, I was older than eight, but not a lot older, maybe 9-10.
My dad was a lineman for the local power company, and back in those days of the mid-1950's; it was no problem if he took me along to work with him, and I often went along, especially in the summer when I was out of school.
The line truck was a big one-ton truck, 4x4, with tool bins on the side, and even more stuff on top of the truck. We named it Elvis because it would "shake, rattle, and roll".

Sometimes, a squirrel would climb up a power pole , way out in the woods somewhere, and burn out the transformer while frying himself to death with the electricity. Our job was to go and find the power pole, re-set the transformer, and get the power back on for the families that lived out there.
When we were on the narrow little dirt roads, Daddy would sometimes put the truck into "compound low" (the lowest gear in four-wheel drive) and let me steer while the big truck crawled slowly down the road.
Eventually, I learned to shift gears, and actually drive the truck; but the first times were the most unforgettable !

I can share a few sentiments as I started driving Windows 8 years old as well. My parents didn't know that I was stealing the car whenever they had gone out. No one really talk me how to drive I just figured it out somehow. I think it was probably through a lot of observation when my dad was driving the car. It seemed to come really natural to me and so I was able to drive. My major concern was hitting something or damaging the car my parents finding out that I stole the car. Apart from that I was a natural and nothing major really happened. The most damage I have ever done to a car was hit one of the side view mirrors and that was a long time.

My first time driving was in a Chevy Tahoe that was in really bad shape. The steering wheel felt like a dud because you had to turn it so hardly, and the whole rig felt like a tank. I took it out at night on a busy two-lane road near my house with my mom and it started to rain. She totally freaked out and told me to get home as soon as possible, but I handled her like a pro. I hated that SUV, but that excitement helped spark my interest for cars and driving.

Yes my dad taught me to drive on his chevy 4x4 when I was around 15 or so. I loved it and starting off driving something big, I was able to drive anything when it came to me buying an SUV or sedan. I was like a kid in the candy store. When it came time for me to get my permit I used my moms car and passed the first time so I am grateful for my start.

I was about 11 years old and I have driven a van by myself. It was quite easy.

I was about 13 years old my first time driving. My dad took me down a old country road and got out of the car and went around to the passenger side of the can and said get out and you drive lol. I remember I was so scared and I almost crashed the car because I didn't know to let go of the steering wheel after you make a turn. I thought you were supposed to turn it LOL.

I learnt to drive as an adult so the memory is still fresh. My husband was the one who instructed me and I think he did a good job, just wasn't patient enough. The first time I went behind the wheel, we went by an old football field and under his instructions I did steer very good. I was so excited because soon I would be free to take myself wherever I wanted to go.

    Yup.

Around 7 years old, my uncle had a late 80s mustang.

He propped me up on his lap and worked the gas while I did the steering wheel around our neighborhood.

I can't wait to do that for my son!

I started driving late, more or less at 18 with a traumatic driving lesson from my dad lol. I also remember my first lesson in the driving school, I loved it, I felt powerful controlling a car. :)

I started driving very late when I was 23 years old. My first time driving at driving school in the driving park was relaxing because I had a really nice teacher. I also remembered the first time I drive on the road in a normal traffic instead of in the driving school park; I was not as comfortable as I was in the park. This is because I was afraid that I was driving too slowly and that other drivers on the road may start curse me for holding up traffic.

I'm not sure how old i was but i recall my dad setting me in his lap and letting me drive at a very early age. Later on when i was 13 he would take me out on back roads and let me practice. By the time i was 16 i had no problem getting certified. Those were days though when seat belts were not enforced and kids could ride in the back of a pick up going 60 down the highway. Not saying it was safer just was much different.
