Welcome to Gearhead Central!

I'm looking to build a great community of fans of all things automotive. From cars to trucks, 2wd to 4wd, 4 wheels to 18.

I have always loved build threads. It doesn't mater if its a house, boat or a car. So on here I hope to have members post their build threads here for all to enjoy. I have plans for threads that hit certain levels (posts and so on) which will be worked on and announced at a later date.

I added a Motorsports sub section to cars and trucks. It can be found here http://www.gearheadcentral.com/forum/index.php?forums/motorsports.22/ Its for any type of motorsport racing at all. If it has a motor and they race them then its good.

We had a suggestion from Bill (PVGUK) about adding a members ride section. I think its a great idea so the build forum is now called Member Rides and it has two sections. Showcase is for pictures of your cars, trucks or big rigs. Build which is for any build thread.

Some site updates.

A couple of weeks ago we added user ribbions. You can see the one under my avatar. We have the "Founding Members" ribbon now for the first 25 users to reach 100 posts (not including me). Sugarhill is our first member to receive one. Congrats again Sugarhill.

We now have 26 extra smilies added to the site. They can be found in the smilie drop down.

A new feature that was added today allows you to see who the thread starter is. This is a feature I have seen on another board and I love it. It doesn't matter on a thread that is a page or two long but when you get into a long thread you could forget who the thread starter is. This is helpful in a build thread for example. If you look under my name you will see "Thread Starter". I hope you like this small but useful feature as much as I do.

Thanks for the like. Yeah I know they were a big hit on another board I was on so I wanted to make sure I had more then the original ones. As more become available I will look at adding them.

We have a new feature on GearHead Central. I'm sure you have noticed it, its the advanced stats at the top of the main pages. It shows the top posters, most liked, hot threads and so on. Let me know what you think about it.

With football starting tomorrow, Go Cowboys!!!, I added a new section to the main category. We now have a Sports section so we can talk sports there and not bury other topics in the off topic section.

We now have a sportsbook for our members. Its free to use. Other events can be added besides sports. I will start adding more events tomorrow. For now I'm the only "bookie" so I am the only one that will be putting up bets right now. If you have some you want just suggest them in the sports forum.

Everyone starts with $1000. This is just a virtual betting system. This money has no cash value. I will be adding a system this week that will add to your virtual cash for posting and so on.

I will be looking at different things you might be able to do with your virtual cash. One might be to upgrade to a premium level for example (which is something the founding members will get for free). I will think about that but for now just have fun with it.

With the old system it would give money when you went broke. Using this new banking system that gives you money to post, it doesn't have that feature. If someone runs out I can give them money. I think once a week is fair so someone isn't going crazy and wanting to just bet the max and then ask for more if they lose. So we can do $200 on Friday's if someone is lower then $50.

I'm going to add tomorrows NFL games on thre and I will look to see if there is anything else interesting to add for tonight or tomorrow in other sports.

We also have two other new features on GearHead Central.

The first is a tagging system for threads. At the bottom of the thread you will see the Tags box. For example. A thread about Jeep TJs could be tagged with Jeep, Jeep TJ, 4X4 and so on. It depends on what the thread is about. If its about price it could be tagged, auto loan, lease, cash purchase and so on. It would be based on what the topic is about.

This system will also find those words in that thread and make them a link. So if Jeep was a tag, you could click on Jeep and it will bring you to a page with all threads that are tagged with Jeep.

Another feature is the user tag feature. You can tag a user by using the3 @ symbol like you can on Twitter. For example I can tag streakanime and xStylezx
by typing streakanime and xStylezx. They say this system will notify the user that they have been mentioned. Let me know if this works.

Hopefully everyone will like these knew features.
