MapQuest, GPS, Directions etc...

    Has anyone ended up completely lost because of directions from Mapquest or their GPS? A lot of the country roads in the south used to not come up on the system. I can honestly say though that it hasn't happened to me lately so hopefully all the systems are updated.

    Roads are built and changed all the time so they can't always be completely up to date. On my trip to Toronto I went through construction and the GPS didn't even have me on the road. I had another section where it was lost because of exits that were changing. I just had to go the way I wanted and a few minutes later it figured out where I was and was ok again.

    Years ago while in California I was trying to find West Coast Customs and I think it was Mapquest that lead me astray. I never did find it. And I wasn't in the area long enough to go looking again.

    I try to get different options as far as directions and put them all together then just add some common since in there. It really seriously depends on the person because I know someone who gets lost every single time they go 10 mins outside their home. It's crazy lol

    I have gotten lost with Map Quest and with my GPS. I could not find the locations to a job interview I had. The streets on Map Quest had new names so I was not able to locate half of the streets on the directions. I did not make it to me job interview, but I did call to see where it was located. The directions they gave me did not match up cause Map Quest had me extra lost. My GPS will at times get me lost, but I eventually can find my way unlike Map Quest. Sometimes my GPS will have me to get off the express way and then have me get back on it. lol! Technology is not always perfect, but without it I would be truly lost.

    Was you fps up to date? In some areas they can update them fast enough. I had to deliver to new roads that were not on maps or GPS yet. You calling was the perfect way around all of that.

    Another thing I do is search it on my phone. Sometimes that will give me some extra info to get me to my destination.

    At that time, my GPS was probably not up to date, and I believe I did not have a smartphone at the time either, so I was screwed. Now when my GPS does not seem reliable, I do use my smartphone or Android tablet using Google Map. Google Map is very helpful and reliable with directions. It usually have updated new streets and subdivisions.
