Ok this will be our first contest at Gearhead Central. I plan to have many more this year.

This first contest will highlight a feature we have at Gearhead Central (the events calendar), allow a member to win a Auto Art key chain (really nice quality products) and can generate traffic as well.

    Start date: February 9th, 2013

    End date: March 9th, 2013

    How do you win?

Winning is simple. The winner is the one who post the most car related events in the calendar between now and March 9th, 2013. What events count...

    • Car/truck/motorcycle/RV shows
    • Charity car wash
    • Show N Shine
    • Racing event
    • Car club meet
    • Local band gigs (car lovers also love music)
    • Drive in movie events
    • Car parts swap meets (update)
    • Car auctions (update)
Check the list of up coming events so that you don't repost an event. Click on the button that makes a thread for the event in the events section as well.

I'm also thinking of offering a second prize to the members event that receives the most traffic.

I will post up the prize shortly.

    Current leader board.

Here is the prize. Its a 50th Anniversary Corvette disc brake key chain. This key chain is valued at about $9-10 US.

On other thing. The events don't have to be local to you. You can find them on the internet. If there is a website, please post that in the spot for that.

For the secondary prize for the most traffic, small events that for some reason in 2013 do not have a website for the event, seem to work the best. Or the large events because most are done every year and are well known.

Pretty neat contest, pretty cool prize James. Looks good.
Drive In Movie events? Well not that many drive ins left I would guess although there is one triple drive in here where I am, but it isn't operating yet. There are a couple of upcoming motorcycle events but they are still months away.

I agree that there isn't many drive ins. I figured there could still be the odd one that might have a special showing or something.

At the bottom of the create event form you will see these two boxes. Click both of these. That way people can show if they are attending or not and there will also be an thread started for the event. This will give people a thread to talk about the event and post pictures and so on.

    Thanks
    James

Nice keychain! I'm sure western countries have lots of car events unlike here in Asia, so I'm expecting that a lot of events will be US or UK based.

There isn't many in Asia? I thought there would be. There would be a lot in North America. For this contest they can be pretty much anywhere in the world.

A google search can also be done to find some to post. The more the better.

Nope, not to my knowledge here in Thailand. Of course a lot of the stuff that goes on here is "Here today and gone tomorrow" or advertised strictly in Thai.

Well the ones that get publicized here are those go-kart racing events, and those cars shows of a certain high end brand, like the launch or unveiling of a popular car brand's new car model like the BMW for example. So I don't think that it would fit the type of car shows that you are looking for?

They fit as well. Many top racers started out in karts. So they fit with racing events.

Manufacture car unveiling events would count as well.

Exotic or luxury car shows are of interest to me as well.

So far BigBigFan is in the lead with one posting (RV event).

Thursday I posted three from my PlayBook while waiting for my turn at a receivers dock.

I still thinking of offering a second prize for the one that brings in the most traffic but I would like to see more then one person entered into the contest.

If you go to the event forum http://gearheadcentral.com/index.ph...-washes-and-other-events.26/&order=view_count and click on views you can see that the event with the most views is a small local event. It was held about 45 minutes from me. It didn't have a website so that is what helped I think. The poster was posted at work, I took a picture with my camera so I had the info to post when I got home. I also posted the picture of the poster since I wasn't going to post all info from it. Plus pictures are nice.

The events can be next weekend or taken place in December. The earlier something is posted the more views it can bring in. Also if click the button to allow it to create a thread in the events section, it makes it easy for you to see the amount of views and it allows you to promote the event. If you go in the thread you will see the share buttons at the bottom of the thread. This will make it easy to post it to Twitter, facebook, Google+, Stumbleupon and so on. By doing this you bring people into the site. A lot will only look at that threat. Some will check out the rest of the site as well. A couple could even become members.

This is one contest I like because its good for members and the site. Having lots of events posted makes it good for out members to find out about great shows that might be coming to their area.

If this contest does well I will have more just like it. As time goes on I would like have more prizes and maybe even something for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

I just added a leader board to the first post.

And I'm not sure if I mentioned it yet but you don't have to be from the area or event the country of the event. You can be in Canada and post events from Australia. Those can be found with a quick search. The local events you might see a poster for while walking down the street or posted up in a store.

To show how quick and easy it is I just posted the Australian International Motor Show that starts on June 28, 2013. Took 10 seconds to find it. A few minutes to add some info and copy and paste some details.

Hey James - got one on the list, and it is one that is right in my area, in fact one I am planning on going to.
I got a few more to add. I don't have a Vette but it is a cool prize.
Georgian Bay Thunder, in July in Midland, Ontario.
    That's one.

I was thinking about the second prize for the most views. As I thought about it, some events are 6 months away or more. Those events would get some traffic but more leading up to the event. So what I will do later is create a thread explaining all of this. But for that prize will be for this year. So anything posted this year will be eligible for that contest. So basically you have a chance to win two prizes with the events you are posting in this contest and any other event contest that I run this year.

I see, then I must keep my eyes open for the ads. :) I usually see them in the newspaper, in the lifestyle or sports section. If ever I see one then I will put a link of the online version of the article.

    Hey Flexin
I am still listed as one event. I have two, the Georgian Bay and Ride for Sight.
I am also wondering why these posts are not recognized as new posts? Not quite sure what I did wrong although I know the two events are there. Thanks James. (not quite sure where I should have posted this btw). Events are June and July.
