"A surgeon in Ohio wearing Google Glass live streamed a knee surgery to remote colleagues, demonstrating how the medical world can use wearable technology like Glass.

Dr. Christopher Kaeding, a surgeon at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, was performing a surgery on a 47-year-old patient's injured knee ligament, during this milestone event. Kaeding wore Google Glass during the surgery to show his live point-of-view to people miles away, according to the university statement."

This is a cool use of the technology. This could really come in handy with some special cases. A specialized doctor can assist in the surgery form anywhere in the world as long as they have a good internet connection.

I don't see why they couldn't use any other small camera attached to their head though. Tying this in to a bunch of Google services is kind of frightening the more you think about it. Would you want your private medical procedures being stored and analyzed by Google for marketing purposes? Imagine if someone hacked into your Google account, they could have access to all of this information.

The surgery wouldn't be tied to your Gmail account. This is just to show other doctors. They could use other cameras but the advantage to google glass I that they can being up any of your charts without haven't to move a monitor close to them or walk to it.

Do I like Google having their hands into everything? Not really.

Well it seem pretty cool, though I wonder if it is really safe. Like Flexin said he don't really like Google into everything and I realize that is what they are doing now. Google is getting involved in so many areas and it makes me wonder if the glasses is safe for surgery.

We truly live in amazing times. I've seen information technology evolve from big, ugly boxes that spewed more paperwork to devices that have revolutionized the world.

Anyway, pretty darn cool use of Google Glass. It will be interesting to see how that device changes things up as it becomes more commonplace.

Love seeing this kind of technology in use. Can't wait til Google Glass comes out and is available to the masses.

That's crazy awesome. There are so many things that are possible with Glass. This really amazes me how far we've come.

That's amazing! I can't wait to get me one of these sometime in the future. It is indeed crazy how far we've come in terms of technology and the fact that doing something like this will soon be commonplace and normal.

That YouTube video was filmed in Columbus and I live in Columbus. But I'm glad that they're using these kinds of technology to help people, and I think it's cool that they're using Google Glasses.

Well I do hope that they don't record this under your account, since they monitor your browsing activities on Chrome and then they record all of your search activities when you are signed in to Youtube and Google. So it makes me expect that they may possibly do this on Google Glass.

For the hospital they wouldn't allow that. It could cause a lot of problems for them.

Ah yes, the typical patient-doctor confidentiality. It does make sense, because they will be sued if they would record that.

If technology can be used to help others in the medical field I am all for it. As long as it is all secure and out of unauthorized prying eyes. In this case of the use of Google glass in a knee surgery is a very cool concept.
