Everyone noticed all the sites on the net down today? Seems Godaddy was Ddos attacked and it has taken down a lot of their services and possibly millions of domain names registered through them. Heres a link to the story.

I read about it on a blog I'm following. Usually when people attack sites, I find it very annoying. What's the use of it? In this case, millions of people are affected directly or indirectly, which is a shame. It can cause damage for those doing business.

This is the first I'm hearing about it. Rough day so I didn't get online too much. I think fines and time served for these types of crimes needs to increase. Like KennyK said, they are doing damage to a lot of businesses. The money lost every hour would be unreal.

Yeah, I was thinking about the insane amount of money likely lost today. How many potential sales and business deals were lost? The money has to be pretty high. It is a shame people do malicious things like this. I still must fault Godaddy for not having a better Ddos protection in place. I now wonder when the lawsuits will start on Godaddy? Im sure they will eventually end up in court, while the script kiddie that pulled this off drinks his red bull and hangs out in chat rooms in the dark in his mom's basement. :(

Attacks to popular websites is very commonly seen, but sounds truly weird that a website that has always sold security solutions as well, is being now victim of DDOS attacks.

However we must also remember that the company's headquarters is located in Arizona, and that state is actually under a number of social issues affecting government and commercial websites. While GoDaddy went unpopular supporting the SOPA, I'm not sure if they are actually supporting the infamous immigration law.

Don't think so because they seem to be a friendly service to the whole world regardless language, race or location, but I smell the attacks could be resulting from either social discontent or people who is not satisfied with the transition of services since Bob Parsons left.

How many of them actually get caught & punished? It should be considered as a crime, theft and doing damage to business. Too many hackers get away with what they are doing.

There are quite a few that get caught. I notice it a lot on internet news sites and various blogs. Godaddy is now saying there was no "hack" and it was some sort of router corruption or something. Who really knows at this point.

First I read that it was the hacking group Anonymous but then apparently it was just a lone wolf that broke away from Anonymous. I don't know why he targeted godaddy but something must have pissed him off. He was probably some douchey little nerd boy that wanted to take down someone's site and thought this would be the best way to do it.

I think what motivates them is the ego boost that they get when they attack such websites, since they managed to bring down a large company, plus they get to be on the news. These people really need to get a life and some maturity. Just recently, my favorite torrent site, demonoid.me was a victim of ddos attacks, and now it's gone for good. I read that those intellectual property rights advocates are behind the ddos attacks on demonoid.
