I am of two minds about drifting, one of my ex-boyfriends lobbied the local council for a safe place where teenagers could go and bring their broken down cars and just have fun and I can see his reasoning there. The fact is that those who drift are going to find somewhere to do it.
I totally agree that there should be crackdown on drifting in suburban areas but there needs to be somewhere else they can go. Most of these kids are just bored so if you set up a safe bit of land and had adults around supervising safety etc (and providing other activities) then this might solve the problem.
I know I am a bit of an idealist but there is no harm in trying!

I was always interested in drifting from watching movies and I always wanted to try it. I know drifting is very dangerous and it costs a lot of money to replace tires.

Drifting is fun and is really fun to watch too, It's very exhilerating watching someone do a nice drift and burn some rubber, definitely satisfying lol

Yeah but those kids have to be licensed. Drifting fan or not you have to have a drivers license before you do any drifting. If you can't drive legally, then you shouldn't be able to drift.

Well, I think drifting can be a lot of fun and amusement but it can also be dangerous too. Since anything could go wrong during drifting patrons have to be careful while they have fun and drivers also has to be extra careful.

Not interested to try, not even once. What's the point in drifting? Show off? Be part of the fad? I rather save on tires and gas by not doing this, not judging those who are into this, but I must admit it definitely isn't my thing.

Drifting is an art. Not only that you are controlling the vehicle in a very unstable position, but you also need a lot of coordination and ACCURACY. One millimeter and you are DEAD.

Considering drifting has been around for over 40 years, I'd hardly call it a fad. Drifting is a sport just like racing and autocross are.

I have always thought drifting was cool. I remember an old friend of mine use to drift in his Honda Accord and it was such a rush, even though he sucked at it, lol. I have never tried drifting personally, but it looks like it is a little tricky to get it right.

I would imagine its very bad for your vehicle. I've done it before on the street unfortunately. Drifting on the street is EXTREMELY dangerous, i don't know about pro. Its probably safer than pro drag racing like you said.

Yes, it's a lot safer than drag racing and is more fun to watch, a car slipping and sliding with style on a race track is more entertaining than a car going fast on a straight line. I think drifting is one of those things that not everyone can do, sure one can make a car slide on corners but to have that much control and finesse is a completely different discipline altogether .

Yes it is an art and you have to really seriously know what you're doing to not die. They're skilled athletes.

I have personally been drifting once in my life. It's a great experience. ;)
