I change the engine oil maybe every 6-8 weeks. If I was the only one driving it I doubt I would change it that often but with my husband doing so much driving I have to.

To be perfectly honest I don't change much oil all that often, maybe once every 6000 miles 0r so. I had an auto tech class back in high school and my instructor told me about how he didn't change is motor oil for over five years and his car was perfectly fine. I think as long as there is a good amount of oil in your engine you'll be good to go.

I am a firm believer in changing the oil every 3k miles. My current car is a 2005 that I bought brand new and it has 113k miles on it now and it still runs as good as the day that I bought it. I bet it will run for another 100k miles because I take care of it.

Wow, Rosa, you and your husband must really do a lot of driving if you have to change your oil that often ! I change mine about the 3,000, just like Greg does, because that is what is usually recommended. Actually, no more driving than I do now, it is usually the 3 month time that gets there way ahead of the 3,000 miles.
When I sold insurance, I had a route to travel, and would average 1,000 miles every week, but since then, I am no where close to that amount.
Nevertheless, if you are putting that many miles on your car each week, it is a good thing that you are keeping the oil changed regularly like you do. Hopefully, it is a newer car, and won't have any problems from all the driving.

I change mine every 3 thousand miles too. I would go longer than that, but my car model is known for burning off oil and dirtying it pretty quickly. I sometimes have to top it off in between changes too. It's not that hard to do yourself, and keeps your car running that much better, so why not?

I change it every 10000 Km for my car.If you drive it hard and through harsh conditions(high engine rpm,heat,cold..etc) than you should change it more often.Maybe every 300o miles. If ever the color changes to a dark brown or some other dark form, then its time to change it.

I think you are supposed to do it every 3000 miles per vehicle guidebook. But honestly that is not necessary. And now you got cars equipped with oil monitors that tell you when its time to change the oil. I have driven up to 8000+ miles without an oil change.

I always change my oil per 2k miles, I'm always a bit paranoid with my car. I constantly keep regular maintenance checks on it and drive it with loving care, that's why I guess my car has lasted me for over 6 years now, still running well.

I do it at about 5000 kms. Synthetic was just put in @Lisa car is we will go a little longer on that one.

My work truck (cement mixer) is done every 250 hours. It has a hour meter under the odometer. The truck idles so long that you can't do it based on mileage.

I've been using full Mobil 1 full synthetic and replacing it around 10,000 miles. I check the level at 5k and top off if needed. I normally use Purulator or Mobil 1 filters to go with it.
so far 160k miles on the 4Runner, and running just as good as when I bought it new. Oil looks good when it comes out too, not thick or anything like that.

That's pretty interesting. How many quarts do one of those take?

I can't remember. I don't do the oil changes on them. The oil pan is huge. I will have to ask how much they hold.

Depends on your engine and on the oil you use. My AX is every 10,000km maximum, while my mother's Clio is 20,000. You should follow what your vehicle's manual says.

I used to religiously change my oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever came first. However, I am back on full synthetic now and the owner's manual says every 5,000 miles is fine, so I'm going with that figure.

Three months seems like too early for me, unless you drive a lot everyday. It's usually every 6-8 months that we hit the time here.
