When I get in and out of my car, I ensure that I close the door as gently as possible. But when I allow some people to ride at my car, most of them close the door extremely hard which of course annoys me a lot. But I don't say a word to them because I don't know how to approach them and tell them to close the door gently as they might misinterpret me.

How do you approach passengers and tell them not to slam the door of your car?

I hate it when people do this. Like I understand they want to ensure the door is closed all the way, and their car might require them to close it hard, but mine doesn't. I just politely tell them it doesn't need to be closed that hard, they really don't care at all! Just let them know :)

I know just what you are saying here ! Why is it that drivers know to shut the door softly, and all passengers slam doors?? Some of them have had cars of their own, so you would think that they should know better.
I have a friend that doesn't drive anymore, so i take her along to do her grocery shopping. I have a station wagon, so we put the groceries in the back, and then I stand there until she is done loading hers, so I can close the rear hatch.
She does do better when she gets out of the car, and shuts her door; and I just don't have the heart to scold her about this; so I just keep on shutting the back tailgate as often as possible.
Sometimes, I have just told people that "it shuts easy", and that works, but some of them are just committed door slammers, and telling those people seems to do no good at all.

I use to say "STOP SLAMMING MY DOOR!!!!". It drove me nuts. Just come out and say it after awhile you will get tired of repeating yourself.

Fortunately, we do not really have that many passengers in our vehicle. Just myself, my husband, and my son. My son is still too small to get in the car by himself. ;)
My husband is not shy when it comes to protecting our vehicle though. He's very quick to bite someone's head off for doing anything that damages it.

Either ways , it gets me a little edgy when someone slams my car door or not close it properly and I have to tell them repeatedly to try again. However, when they slam my door, I am not afraid to ask my passenger if they are trying to break my door. Most times I get no answer, other times just a giggle.

I confess, am a culprit when it comes to slamming doors on people cars, luckily they don't complain as they are the ones who insist that the doors have to be slammed...this happens on less maintained cars, its like the doors lose grip slowly, therefore that mentality gets to me in regard to slamming doors, i 'll try to stop it ;)

I have seen this sort of thing really get to the car owner, especially taxi drivers here, maybe because it is something that they have to repeat to passengers throughout the day. Once I saw a taxi driver stopped his car and asked the passenger to get out. That was sad but I guess he was frustrated or just had other issues.

We went to the mall in the Jeep. When my son was getting out I told him he had to be firm closing it it it doesn't close tight. But not to slam it. He closed it just right in one try. Made me proud. :D

This used to annoy me a lot but I decided that my well-being and sanity are much more important. So whenever someone is getting off the car I already anticipate the door getting shut hard. And for a very brief period, I would focus my mind on something else, really focus hard that I won't be able to notice or hear the door shutting. It takes some time to get used to, but it has helped me quite a bit.

This is a bit of a tricky situation. I generally have issues when i am closing car doors as one of the challenges i face is that some cars have heavier doors than others and so for me i usually put a specific amount of pressure to cater for all cars and doors. So sometimes that pressure ends up forcing a car to bang really hard and at times it is not the intended result. But i guess we are human and mistakes happen.

I don't have a car, but if I did I would be extremely annoyed if someone did that to my car. I think I would tell them in a joking way to not slam the doors of my car too hard, just moderate slamming would do. I don't think they would be offended if I say it in a joking or polite way.

I close people's doors lightly, sometimes too lightly where it won't even close completely, then I have to reshut it. I hate when someone slams my door, I just think to myself, "it's doesn't take every muscle in your body to close a door".

I which more adults could get it right the first time too. Great accomplishment for him and on top of that making you proud of him. How old is he?

Good idea vandemon. I have also seen drivers turn their hand behind and catch the passenger door behind them before the passenger had a chance to slam the door or ask them not to slam before they attempt to.

I think having a specific amount pressure to cater for closing all car doors could pose a problem since, as you say, all car doors do carry a different weight. Closing it lightly may be a better idea because I think the driver would prefer to ask you to try again than be outrageously upset for you slamming it too hard.

It kind of annoys me when people do that... it feels like they're going slam it right off! I usually just tell them to do it gently. But I don't really have people in my car who slam the door. They're usually gentle, so that makes me happy :D

I don't get "angry", it just annoys me a little. Usually the doors are build to deal with the impact so it's not really a big deal.

My mom is good for slamming the door and it drives me insane. Every time I say something to her she is like what I didn't slam the door. But its my mother and there really isn't much more I can do besides tell her not to slam the door.
