Does anyone like to rent a car for a road trip? I have one coming up and I don't think I should try to drive my car plus the whole family is going so I'm going to need more room. I've used Hertz and Enterprise long ago. Any suggestions?

I do and I don't. I like to save money by taking my own but sometimes you need a different vehicle. When my brother went to the bar to become a lawyer, we all drove out to Toronto. We rented an SUV with third row seating. It gave us extra room to stretch out. My brother and I would sleep back there when we were not driving. We drove straight through.

    How many people are going?

Here is the review on the Ford Excursion we rented. http://gearheadcentral.com/index.php?threads/2013-ford-excursion-el.3510/#.Ups6i-IrdbE

We also rented a lot of Chrysler 300's and they are nice cars. That would been nice for the trip but we had five people and a dog so it would have been way to tight to drive that distance.

I have driven cars of different models most of which have been for rental. I don't love the idea of borrowing a car in exchange of my hard-earned money but sometimes circumstances force me to. Most times i consider renting a car especially when I have more than four passengers to travel with. Other times I borrow cars when I am not in the mood of driving my own car but most considerably I do it when my boss asks for it.

We use Enterprise to rent a mini van for a group of 6 women to Miami. It was plenty of room and we had no problem with the car or service. We did run into an ugly storm in Miami and end up going down a road that was flooded with water. We tried to reverse the car but other cars behind us prevented us from doing that so we had no choice but to go through. The water was pretty high, basically touching the middle of the doors. This guy who was walking guided us to stay in the middle of the road, cause we would have gotten stuck had we went to the side. Situations like this usually happen when you rent a car and never in your own car. But we had no problem with the service, or car and it got us there and back with no problem.

Just. Little tip. Never worry what the people behind you are doing when you have a bad situation in front of you. As long as they are stopped. If they feel it is safe to go then they can drive around you.

Don't put yourself in a dangerous spot to please them.

Car rentals on never really too bad. Especially when you get the car that you're looking for. They also come in good condition as these cars are maintained often. For me the worst thing about renting a car is when your time is up. Returning a car always sucks because I develop an attachment for a particular vehicle and I find it hard to give it back. So whenever I can I prefer to use my own vehicle. The only time I'll rent a car is when my car is not able to handle certain terrains

Usually I drive my own. I don't like all the insurance and paperwork that comes with a rental.
