For car tires I would have changed my first at around 16 if not before. I was able to change tires and balance them as well at that time. I also plugged my first hole in a tire at 16.

I can honestly say I've never changed a tire, and I would really have no idea how to do it if I had to. That's what husbands are for! But seriously, the one time I got a flat tire I walked to the nearest business and called my dad.
I would like all of my kids to know how to change a tire.... it's a life lesson. Not to sound too sexist, but especially my boys. I just feel like I assume guys know this stuff. LOL

I think it's a good idea for all the kids to know in my opinion, yes. Definitely the guys because that's kind of supposed to be a crucial skill as viewed in society, but I as a girl am happy to know how just because if I'm ever in a situation where I don't have any help and can't get any, then I'm not stuck. :)
That said, I didn't change my tire until last year, when I was 21. >.< I always had a general idea on how to do it, but I had never had the opportunity to do it myself until then..

Tire changing I've never done since I've never had the tool that mounts the tires to the wheels, but I've definitely changed the wheels (rims and tires together) since I was around 15.

I think it's one of those general knowledge things that everyone should at least have some basic knowledge on. It could come in very handy one day.

My first flat tire was when I was sixteen. Luckily it was not as hard to change it as I would have thought. Everyone should know how to change a tire and basic emergency skills. Even though I have roadside service, you never know if you will have a problem outside of cell range or call boxes.

I've never actually changed a tire before and besides my car is way too tiny to car a spare, it can barely hold groceries.

That day hasn't come yet, and I'm 26! I'm just not handy with that kind of things, neither is my boyfriend, lol. He swears he can change a tire, but he always has his dad to do that for him. So the jury is out on that one, because I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt :D Just being a nice girlfriend :p

I've never had to change tire any day since I started driving. I can say that I'm favoured for that to have happened. Having a flat tire may not be unusual but it:s embarrassing as far as I'm concerned

I haven’t changed any tire yet not because the brand I have is more outstanding and durable than the others in the market but because I just bought my car the other day. But as per my considered opinion by the end of next year I may have to…because I personally love using fresh and outstanding products. But I am not sure which model to consider most…anybody with a suggestion…I own a Mercedes.

Good question, possibly around 20-22, that was when I started driving. What about you @yellowbird?

I changed my first tire in the driving school assisted by the instructor. It was pretty simple and fast to do and also kinda fun.

First time I changed tires I was 17. My mother's car front tires was alot more wasted than the back ones and as the traction is in front we decided to put the front ones in the back and the back ones in the front. I've done it alone without anyone ever teaching me apart from internet videos. Luckely, none from the four tires/wheels came off. Hahaha. After that I've done the same in my car, and done it again in her car. Never had a flat tire until now.

I think I was 15. It was a flat tire for our car which kind of happened overnight. Good thing was that it did not happen while we were driving or when we are in the middle of nowhere.

The reason I remember the age was because it was our first car, an Italian Fiat, and my dad took me with him to change the tire. It was kind of first time for me to touch the inner parts of a vehicle (admittedly today I know changing tire is not a big thing). That was quite exciting.

Well, maybe I hold some kind of a record there, too, since I am in my late 60s, and have never ever changed a tire. However, I always carried AAA, so when I had a flat tire, I could call for help, and they would come out and change it for me.
I remember one time, my daughter and I were on a road trip in our old Chevy van, and had a real nasty flat tire, and right in the middle of going through Portland, Oregon, at rush hour.
We managed to get pulled off the freeway, and we actually did do our best to change that tire ourselves, but it was just on there way too tight for us to even get the lug nuts loose.
So, we sat there for the hour that it took AAA to come and rescue us, and change the tire.
Being able to change one is a great idea, at least in theory, but not always physically possible when they have been put on tightly with those air wrenches. AAA is always handy, even when you can change your own tires though. It has saved me bunches of times !

I've also never changed a car tire before, and I still don't know how to do it. I guess someday I need to learn how to do it so that I won't depend on others when the need arises.

I never looked at it as a hard thing. I mean, it's all about un-screwing the screws slightly while it is on the ground, lift the car until the tire doesn't touch the ground, finish taking off the screws(the pneumatic/air wrenches they use in garages don't make it hard to un-screw, all they are good for is un-screwing.) and removing the wheel. Put the emergency wheel on, screwing all the screws to half, then give it a medium force screw in X position, meaning you first screw lets say, the top left screw, then the buttom right screw, then the top right screw, then the buttom left screw, depending on how many screws it has, lower the car to the ground and give it a tight screwing.

Yeah, and if you're used to do it, you can change a tire in 5-10 minutes. Imagine if you're going to work and a tire pops? If you wait for someone to come and change it, you'll most likely get late.
