Those flame throwers are great. But from what I remember you will do jail time in North America for using them. Its crazy if true. Your protecting yourself from a car jacker and do jail time yourself.

If I am remembering right, they are used in Africa. The area I heard that uses them has a huge car jacking problem. This mod had to cut that down a bit.

Besides locking the door, as many of the replies have said, hiding any valuables is the way to go. While parked at my university, I always try to park by a camera in the garage just in case someone wants to key my car or something like that.

I think one of the best theft prevention tactics is to get your windows tinted. Although it makes your car more noticeable it also takes more work to see into the car to see if there is anything good to steal. I don't know if it is a fact but i think that 90% of theft is because someone just walks by and sees something sitting there that they want. If they can't simply see something as they walk by they are less likely to steal something.

Sorry I thought the post was about prevention of people stealing stuff from your car, to prevent car theft, the absolute best idea is to have keys with chips. It is then nearly impossible to steal a car that requires a chipped key to start.

That is actually a good tip to help ward people away from stealing things from inside the car! Of course it's always a good idea to remove any valuable items from within view from outside the vehicle, but I did not think of tinted windows as a tip for keeping people peering inside!

Thanks, I have always seen tinted windows as a great investment.
    It really has many purposes:
It helps to prevent theft from your car.
It helps to protect your precious interior from UV rays from the sun
It helps to keep your car cooler in the summer
It makes your car look so much better
And of course why many people get there windows tinted; Added Privacy

There's nothing I really do to prevent car theft, except hide my valuables.

I had a nice Honda a few years ago and it never got broken into. It had a good alarm system. Just this year, I had my saturn broken into, for no apparent reason - there was nothing nice about the car and I had no valuables inside.

BAIT CAR is the funniest show ever! The criminals are just joyriding and then all of a sudden the car stops. And then the law shows up. Hilarious! As for vehicle theft, it can be prevented by simply locking your doors, and not leaving any VISIBLE valuables in the front seat. THIS IS THE KEY. A criminal might peek at your car, and into it? But if he sees nothing he wants from the jump? He won't risk breaking in for the possibility of cash in the glove compartment. But if he sees cash or a mac or a piece of jewelry on the front seat or in between the passengers seat and front seat. He'll proceed to break in. And then you'll be minus your property, and your window will need to be fixed.

I also have a club steering wheel locked like you guys. But that doesnt mean that your car is always safe. There are professional car thieves out there that can easily unlocked anything. I was thinking of trying to buy a fake realistic, lifelike pitbull or rottweiler and just leave it inside the car to bluff supposedly car thieves. :)

I don't disagree with your comment that professionals can unlock anything, but they would not unlock the Club I think a pro would cut through the wheel and slip it off. Easier and faster. But the device itself might serve as the deciding factor that would make them move along to an easier choice. It isn't that the thing can't be bypassed but the fact that other choices would be easier. I have had this one for years,
and it is the same one I use with the Ranger that I used on my Mazda RX7. So much for buying
one specially for a truck. Anyhow, it is to say the least very visible. Just like you do not want
valuables to be seen, you want the Club to be seen.
What ever happened to the old days when people didn't have to lock up their cars. Gone, sadly gone.

I agree. Unless your car is special (something custom that might add to the value) or just in an area that gives them more time to work on it then most will move on. You want the easy target.

Stopping some is better then stopping none.

I have heard some successful things about Onstar. A friend I know had it and he says he feels more safe when his car is equipped with it. They notify you instantly the moment they notice any unusual activity in your car.

What movie was that where the guy breaks into a car and he gets like 100,000 thousand volts of electricity that fries him like an egg? It was a movie where they showed a commercial or something of an electric anti-auto-theft device.

Call me crazy but i think that if you want you car to not be stolen then you need to get an alarm.....not just any alarm, but one extremely loud alarm that could wake up the entire neighborhood. That way if anyone dare touches your car, you can hear them from a mile away.

To prevent car theft I will hide all of my valuable items in my car, so thieves cannot see it. Or I will try not to bring expensive items with me. Another thing I do is lock the doors and roll up the windows.

Some time back I used to see a lot of bars that used to be tied on the steering of vehicles so as to act as a deterrent to potential thieves. Anyone knows what happened to them? They just disappeared from the market, I hardly see any of them lately.

You have a good point there. I have manual in my ten-year old truck so it is pretty safe, especially with the
Club. And here is a tip for stopping Motorcycle theft. Don't have a Harley.
This isn't meant as a putdown of Harley but I have been told that the HD brand is the
    most attractive for bike theft.

You mean like my Club device? They are still around. Maybe they are low tech but they are around
and I know they are still for safe in place like Canadian Tire and Walmart. I am still using mine
and I got it around 15 years ago.
