I have a dear friend who has worked with me for years. She had bought a Camaro brand new and continued to sink so much money in it over the years, she was sort of committed to the project. On one of its major trips to the "car hospital" the repair was delayed waiting for parts. Delayed for months.

So I see an older clean Cadillac on the side of the road. I drive past it for a month admiring its clean lines and general condition. Finally I stop on a whim and decide to give my friend a "bonus" and bought this one owner, low miles. clean as a whistle 25 year old Cadillac for under two thousand dollars. So although it was already sharp as a tack, I decided to take the time and detail every inch of this beauty. It took me about a week to finish the project but I could not have been more proud. So on the day I decided to surprise my friend after we finished work for the day, she asked if I could give her a ride. I laughed saying "sure, to where" and she said that her Camaro was suddenly "done". "Done" I asked. "You mean done and ready for you to drive"? Of course she said, "that's why I need a ride over".

So there went my surprise. I went out side with her and we walked to the Cadillac. "What's this?" she asked. I explained that I wanted to surprise her, I got a deal on it and thought she might like it during her cars frequent trips to the shop. "Well it's really nice, but you keep it. You always like a project."

That began my driving the car, that only became "mine" by chance. I first started just tooling around on weekends and then realized how much attention the car got and even the luxury of an old sedan versus my newer SUV daily driver. It was "fun" to say the least and now me and the "Caddy" have a sort of bond I did not expect. I regularly get compliments from the young valets who often say my car is "sick" (which I realize is a good thing). In parking lots or drive thrus, it is rare I don't get a comment or two.

So I am quite sure that the Cadillac with the pristine white leather and the shimmering paint and inviolate door jams will probably be with me another 25 years.

That Cadillac looks like its in amazing shape. How many miles are on it? How long have you owned it?

It's a great looking car, we don't see those cars in our streets here in Portugal...
