Not that many careless drivers where I live. A couple of years ago was different. But now it's pretty much safe drivers who are cautious. So many accidents happened near the area where I live, probably why people are so careful.

I see a lot of careless city employees with their snow plows this winter. They apparently don't like cars parked on the road and come within inches of hitting them with their blades.

My neighbor had the side mirror swiped off his truck in January and he tried to complain but got nowhere, he didn't see it happen but the snow next to his truck was gone in a way that left little doubt.

Yep, that is it. Since I have been here I have longed to drive a bike instead of only being a passenger on one. However do to my current physical condition and onset of early altzheimer's I don't think I could trust myself to find my way home much less drive the thing. :(

This a topic that is very much in the forefront of my mind everyday due to the ongoing pain I deal with everyday. I have no good feelings about careless drivers however I'm here in my dream country that I had wanted to go to since I left Vietnam in 1969. One really has to watch out what one wishes for though. It was a careless driver rear ending me that made it possible for me to be here. In that accident I suffered a neck injury that to this day plagues me and for which I am still under medical care. Was it worth it? The jury is still out on that one. I probably would not be here now had it not been for that accident. Actually I have no patience for those who endanger others with their careless driving habits regardless of the circumstances.

Come to Thailand and you will see the unbelievable! It doesn't surprise me though due to the general driving habits here or should I say "aiming" habits.:nailbiting: If I were able to drive over here I would NOT! Thank goodness for arthritis in this case. It is bad enough just being a passenger.

Yes, in the area I live there are many careless drivers. My dad actually recently lost his car as someone pulled out a junction without looking. Luckily no one was hurt, and even with what looked like a few hundred pound in damage, it was made a write off. It's pretty bad here in my area terms of accidents. Still, I can't complain when I look at the driving conditions in the likes of China and India!

I'm glad to hear that your father wasn't hurt. That is the important thing.

Having lived here for over five years now I think if I could drive here I would NOT! The stress level would be just too much. It is bad enough riding on the back of a motorbike or in a car as a passenger much less being behind the wheel. Alas, my driving days are over as long as I live in Thailand and that's o.k.:)

I have to agree with al. But I have been here five years and I think I am going to buy a motorbike in the near future. Motorbike taxis and the converted small pick-up buses are ok, but I want to ride again! Most of the motorbikes here are only 125 cc's so that is not very exciting, but they are affordable. You can get a new Honda or Kawasaki for about US$1000.

Where I currently live, the drivers aren't THAT bad. They're just city drivers, so sure, they're distracted or careless at times, but overall, I can't complain THAT much.

Unfortunately, the main reason is because the last place I lived, they were horrible. Nobody really knows how to drive and they're all careless. The high school where everyone takes Driver's Ed has the class taught by the football coaches. It's how they save money and are able to only hire on a few men, mostly to be coaches, but to use parttime as teachers as well.... And then those high schoolers grow up, teach their kids or have their kids taught by similar coaches (or become coaches themselves and teach other people's kids, too) , and the cycle is neverending.

There are careless drivers out the ying yank where I live. Just this morning I was driving home from the GYM and some guy ran the stop sign in the mall parking lot and almost smacked into me, he almost smacked into an elderly woman who was crossing the road at the time in an attempt to avoid hitting me. Some people shouldn't be given a drivers licence.

People drive way too carelessly in the city I live in. I've seen India traffic up close and it gets cray, especially when cows get in the middle of the road. As for the careless drivers where I live, it's mainly the one that don't plan ahead and are always in a hurry. As for me, I leave at least 45 minutes early just so I can relax on the way to class.

Haha, as mentioned above, drivers in India are really careless. When I went over there at the age of 12 I was offered to drive one of the rickshaws.. Which at the time was on the wrong side of the road! It's crazy how even though there's a traffic light system, it's not enforced, and people tend to do whatever they like. And with a population of 1 billion and rising, it's turning into a giant problem!

Here in England however, it's less of a problem. But of course there's always one idiot who has to ruin it for the rest of us!

When I first came to Thailand I was stunned at how everyone drove. The primary mode of transport is as stated above the motorbike. Well it is more like aiming than driving from point "A" to point "B". Combine that with autos, tour buses and large truck traffic and you can imagine what it is like. Thus my driving days are "kaput".:(

Sadly, its pretty epidemic here in the rural PNW. Beyond the regular moronic drivers, there are people involved with substance abuse and it shows on the road. Defensive driving and staying off the road at night is a must.

As a local delivery driver, I've seen it all, and they all make the job harder. There are certain times of day when you know it's just better not to be out there, but when it's your job, you can't avoid it — you've got to go out there and deal with them.

I saw one guy "driving" with a cheeseburger in one hand, a Gatorade in the other, talking loudly on his phone headset, and he was steering with one knee. How he kept that truck moving in a straight line is a mystery to me — I suspect he had a lot of practice, which is pretty frightening if you think about it.

As I stated above driving here is unlike any other place with the exception of the P.I. To complicate matters even more is the primary mode of travel from point to point is the motorbike. Couple that with tour buses and big truck traffic can make driving very challenging to say the least. :(
