Do you subconsciously act like you're in control of the car and check your side mirrors or give instructions to the driver.
    I'm guilty of those 2 :p

Ah in my case, no. I don't feel the need to control the driver or the car when I'm in the backseat or passenger seat. I just mind my own business, which is just staring at the view when I'm in the passenger seat.

I try to stay quite for the most part. My mother has an imaginary brake pedal on the passenger side. I'm glad it doesn't work. She puts it on at the wrong time. I laugh at her when she tries to press it.

No, I am not that kind of person, but my parent used to be.

He never liked to drive, but working at the same place that my uncle and living both together sharing the house for each of our families, my uncle was the driver and my father was the director, always giving him instructions and driving him nuts, LOL

I do not do this, but my mother does. She warns of things and even tries to tell me when to turn. My mom does not drive, she is too scared to, but has no problem giving me instructions LMAO! I do not make a fuss because I am respectful and I know she means well, but it sure does play on my nerves.

Only when I'm with my mom haha. I swear, driving with her can be scary, so I become the worst back seat driver.

I personally don't though I remain rather observant of the road conditions especially if I'm sitting in front beside the driver. I'll only give him or her a nudge if that is to prevent an accident! I believe that if you're willing to be the driver's passenger, you should place your trust in his driving skills. Constantly chirping at his or her ears would just distract them or scare them even! A distracted or annoyed driver is definitely not a safe driver! My dad did this to me quite often when I just passed my driving test and sometimes it really distracted me a lot. But I'm thankful for all the pointers that he gave along the way too! I'm just glad he has stopped stepping on his imaginary brakes while seated beside me!

That is too funny! When I was first learning to drive, my father did the same exact thing - I was worried he'd wear out the carpet. I was a bit more aggressive as a driver than I should have been, and he certainly showed me the correct way to calmly brake after a while. I'm sure I'll be doing the same "air braking" for my kids ;)

I don't give out instructions but will admit that I am a terrible passenger. Too many years in control and I know what I'd do in every situation which is not necessarilywhat the driver does. When I go on long trips with one of my friends who loves to tailgate most of the way I have my eyes closed!

I try not to be a "front seat driver" or a "back seat driver" when I ride with someone. However there are some people I ride with that do give me a bit of a start when they drive too fast and too close to another auto's rear. (tailgating)

I have agreeing to being one of the people who is a shotgun-seat driver, but I can't help it. I feel like I know what I am doing and must therefore help the other driver, whether they need it or not :p I think it's just one of those things that you do without realizing because it's an activity that you're used to doing. In my case, I feel like I talk a lot about driving while I'm driving so when I'm just sitting back, I need to talk about the other person's driving too, haha.

It depends on the level of experience of the driver. I don't instruct veteran drivers except when they are disobeying traffic rule. Inexperience drivers may ask you to help them look out for obstacle.

When I am in the passenger seat, I try not to worry about anything because I am not the person who is behind the wheel. But if the driver is have a hard time following the rules or if he asks me for his help then I will help him out.

I always see all of the driver's mistakes and how bad the driver is, which always annoys me. It's also the reason I try not to let people drive me anywhere, because I always give them tips about their driving and they get annoyed with me.

Yeah same here, it's like you are trying to control the wheel using your mind..

Heck yeah I do. But it depends on who's driving. If it's my mother, sister, gf...then I'm pretty nervous. If it's my friend Pat, well, the kid can drive...

More like if a lady is on the wheels, you gotta watch her every move. I can actually sleep in the car if a guy that i know is driving..

I think I try hard not to be that way, because I know how it feels as the driver to have somebody stomping on the floor wishing there was a brake pedal. It's annoying, especially if you aren't driving crazy. I just try to relax and let them do their thing, although in some situations I do get a little bit of anxiety. Just the fact that I'm not the on in control, and my life is at risk, makes you a little uncomfortable.
