Here in Thailand it is Sunday, Dec. 9th. about 4 in the afternoon.

I just pulled out a bottle of Beer Chang from the fridge, am listening to Neil Young's album, "After The Gold Rush" and thinking of new vids I want to post here tomorrow!

The apartment smells great as I baked two scratch loaves of bread a couple of hours ago and life is great!

And why am I posting all of this? Hmmmm....mainly because that the members here are just cool people and feel like this forum is part of my den!

:) (sometimes the "old hippy" in me comes alive!)

Yep, you are an "old" man now alright. I'm not sure how to take that. Now I don't hold the title of "the oldest "farang" in the block now. Well at least until June that is. How's it feel "OLD MAN"?

I've never had Beer Chang before, but I do love me some Neil Young. What kind of breads did you make? Do you ever make tortillas? That's what I love to make, so much better than store bought. :)

Sounds like a nice relaxing day. My family and I are getting together today to have a little Birthday Party for my mother. I'm also hoping to get some time to watch the Dallas Cowboys play today.

Happy birthday to your mother from sunny Thailand and many happy returns! Yep, that's the life. A nice quiet Sunday, the family around you and an exciting "American" football game going on. What a life! Sometime I do miss the U.S. at times like those.

Yep, me too. I am looking forward to the playoffs. We do get American football over here from preseason to the "Super Bowl".

Don't worry Al! You will get the title back in six months! And I don't mind being an old guy...I have a great life! You and I both know that if you are lucky enough to become old, there is no greater place to do do it in then Thailand where we are not referred to as "Old Farts" but elders (but you are an old fart anyway)!

I cook and bake almost everything (now that sounds pompous o_O)! Tortillas are great and I make them when I feel like cooking Mexican food. There is something great about playing with flour and of course when you bake...the house smells great!

It is funny but when I first started baking bread here all of my Thai neighbors just shook their heads at the crazy foreigner (they do not eat bread) but soon afterwards I had the entire block waiting for the next batch to come out of the oven!

O.k. you got me on that one. Yep, since I "have" to get old this is the place I want to do it in. Our country could stand to learn a few lessons on how to treat the elderly. That's probably not "politically correct" to say that and I'll probably hear about it but facts are facts. No one would look in on me daily there like they do here.

Your country Thailand always reminds me of rice. Hope you have had your own share of rice. I like your country's move on agriculture.

Granted Thailand has rice as one of its main staples but it is not the leader in rice production. Thailand also grows sugar cane and it is as pleantiful if not more so than rice. The Philipines grows more and is a world leader in rice production. If memory serves me right there are a thousand varities of rice grown there.

I have a very small potato farm up north and the beauty of this country (jungle areas anyway) is that if somebody needs some potatoes they can feel free to take as much as they need...same thing for me...if I see some watermelon or mangoes on another's farm I just help myself!

So, yes i have had my share of rice...but metaphorically so! :)

It takes an old fart to know one. Yep, we are very lucky when we think about what is going on in the rest of the world. For me Thailand is "paradise".

Yep, me too; mostly "the old part". I can remember when I could not wait to get "old" so I could "retire".
Well now that time is here and it isn't what I thought it would be. In fact it has been a lot of pain from the arthritis. Oh well, I've dealt with pain before when I was participating in sports and this isn't much different. One thing I am really thankful for is deciding to live in Thailand. Being old here is something of a pleasure in that the Thai people really respect and care for the elderly.
